I’m so happy to see Johnny Depp back where he belongs, entertaining people. It was such a magical surprise when it started snowing in very hot, humid San Diego. Them Ebenezer popped out of a doorway. Johnny was in character, and was so much fun. Welcome back!!! You have been missed.
I love Johnny Depp, but I don’t personally see this movie as being a big comeback. I definetly won’t watch this in theaters, but might when it hits streaming for free.
The main issue is a Christmas Carol has simply been done and remade too many times. And most people prefer to watch the classic version as part of their Christmas Traditions.
The only thing this movie has going for it ia Johnny Depps Name, and that it promises to be a darker more Gothic version of the story… which will appeals to some people and maybe horror film fans, but which will also make it feel like a less family oriented movie which Christmas is all about.
Most families with young children whom are the primary targets for Holiday movies, aren’t going to take their children to go see this in theaters, especially since young kids will often have nightmares watching darker movies.
Even if it does okay at the box office, this is going to end up being one of those cult classics some will watch again, but it won’t ever become a family tradition to watch this and have massive viewership every year like Home Alone, The Grinch, Rudolph, etc.
