I used to live in that area 15 years ago, and I would visit Disney World perhaps five times a year, and many times when I would go I wouldn’t have a reservation at the Polynesian but I would still go with my friends and we would sit on the beach and watch the fireworks. There was never anyone else there but us, and Disney never said that you couldn’t do it. Much of the time we would have a reservation at one of the Polynesian resorts restaurants, they would never check when we were on the beach. That’s said, I can definitely see them restricting access to the boats from downtown Disney because that place gets flooded and it also provides these huge parking decks for people who just want to walk around that area without being required to spend a penny. If everybody there, or even just a small percentage of them, wanted to use those boats to go for a cruise, it would make it difficult for the resort paying customers to use those boats, so they really should prevent that access.
I agree with the restrictions up to a certain extent. I was recently made aware that the transportation zip line or buses at Disney Springs cannot be used by locals anymore. One of the perks of living near Disney was that we could enjoy certain amenities without spending much money. The changes might be a good idea for Disney and it’s guests yet it takes away from the pride locals used to feel being able to used such amenities.
Instead of nit picking the can’t can’t can’t do this, go there, just shut the resorts down to you pay, you stay. Gated property. No outsiders. Done. Just FYI, last year, when visiting, I don’t drive, so we take a bus to a partner property, then walked DS to the buss’ to check out other resorts. I always wanted to check out Key West and Caribbean, when I got there, I was totally disappointed in what I saw. However, I found the Dolphin and Swan, I loved them, the location, amenities.. Next time I can stay there. NOW if I was restricted in checking out other property’s, how could I find one I really liked
The restrictions on resort hopping is disgusting. Some people just can’t afford park passes. The Monorail (my favorite) gives people a fun bit of Disney. We have shopped at resort stores and eaten at both sit down & grab n go places. After being denied a veteran’s pass to the parks due to discrimination of my veteran status, why would I want to return? Looks like there will be no annuals passes for me. Please stop this madness.
Sorry but guests staying on property are Disney’s customers. People who want to use transportation for entertainment are not customers and certainly not guests. Get an ADR or stay at a resort if you want access.
