Universal has unveiled new information about its upcoming theme park in the UK.
While Disney may be in the process of investing $60 billion into its theme parks and experiences worldwide, Universal is going toe-to-toe with its biggest competitor by entering one of the most aggressive expansion periods in its history.

The company opened its fourth Orlando gate, Universal Epic Universe, in May 2025, adding a major new destination built around franchises including Nintendo, Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon. The park marked Universalās largest-ever investment in a theme park and significantly expanded its Orlando footprint.
Today, Universal dropped new info on another upcoming project: Universal United Kingdom Resort.
New Info Revealed For Universal United Kingdom Resort
Universal has revealed new details about its upcoming U.K. theme park resort, including a massive financial commitment that ranks among the largest tourism investments in British history.

The destination, officially named Universal United Kingdom Resort, is scheduled to open in 2031 in Bedfordshire. The project will become Universalās first theme park resort in Europe and follows years of speculation about the company’s plans for the region.
On Wednesday, the British government announced that Comcast NBCUniversal has committed more than Ā£5 billion toward construction of the resort during the expected five-year build period. A further Ā£1 billion will be invested during the resortās first decade of operation.
The government is also backing the development with a Ā£1.3 billion infrastructure package designed to improve transportation links around the site. Planned upgrades include improvements to the A421 road network and nearby rail connections, helping support both local residents and future visitors.
The scale of the investment highlights just how significant the project has become for both Universal and the U.K. government. Officials described the agreement as one of the largest investments ever made in the country’s tourism sector.

Universal and government leaders continue to emphasize the economic impact expected from the resort. Current projections suggest the development will create 28,000 jobs across construction and operations, with nearly Ā£50 billion in economic benefit generated by 2055.
Construction is expected to begin soon, with enabling works already underway. Universal says more than 100 employees are already working on the project in the U.K., while the company has reportedly received expressions of interest from more than 33,000 potential applicants. Approximately 80% of future employees are expected to come from Bedfordshire and surrounding areas.
“This historic partnership is a special moment for our company as we bring our first Universal theme park and resort to Europe,” Comcast Chairman Brian Roberts said in a statement.
“We have a long and proud history in the United Kingdom through Sky and NBCUniversal and look forward to creating a spectacular destination that supports the U.K. creative industries and brings joy to millions for generations to come.”
Universal Destinations & Experiences Chairman and CEO Mark Woodbury described the announcement as “a significant milestone” for the project.
“Today marks a significant milestone on our journey to bring Universal United Kingdom Resort, featuring immersive storytelling, thrilling attractions and unparalleled creativity and innovation to the UK,” Woodbury said.
Although Universal has yet to announce themed lands or attractions, previous reports have suggested that it could include everything fromĀ Lord of the Rings toĀ Back to the Future.
While it was initially reported that the park ā unlike its locations in Orlando, Hollywood, Beijing, and Osaka ā would not include the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it has since been suggested that JK Rowling’s universe will indeed factor into its attractions.
