A brand-new Jurassic Park video game is in the works. Set just 24 hours after the original 1993 film by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park: Survival takes place on “a fully realized Isla Nublar” where players assume the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who has somehow ended up stranded on the island and must now find a way to survive the dinosaurs.

Jurassic Park: Survival

The project was first revealed during the Game Awards in December 2023 with a full cinematic trailer. During the summer the following year, IGN shared an exclusive deep-dive from the developer, which focused heavily on gameplay mechanics and exploration.

A year later, we got our first full look at the game via a behind-the-scenes featurette from Saber and Universal, which covered everything including the lead protagonist, dinosaur models, environments, and how the teams have meticulously recreated the original film.

Unfortunately, things have been quiet again since then and there’s still no release date.

A New Jurassic Park Is Coming This Year

Fortunately, another upcoming video game that also takes place in an abandoned dinosaur theme park (yes, really) has finally unveiled its official gameplay trailer and release date.

Developer/publisher Flatrock Games is gearing up to launch Clawed on Steam. Similarly to Jurassic Park: Survival, it is a survival-horror video game (albeit in third-person and not first like Survival) set in its very own version of “Jurassic Park” known as Prehistoria.

“Embark on a covert mission to the dinosaur theme park Prehistoria, where you must explore the park’s grounds to scavenge resources, solve puzzles, and fight your way through diverse biomes, underground tunnels and deadly enclosures,” the synopsis on Steam reads. “But beware, you are not the apex predator here.” The official trailer debuted over a year ago:

Now, we finally have the official gameplay trailer, which confirms the release date of July 23.

The new video teases third-person action taking place throughout the abandoned park, showcasing several dinosaur species including Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor, along with gigantic underwater creatures like the Megalodon. Watch the new trailer below:

Jurassic Park Faces Competition in Gaming and Film

Jurassic Park: Survival and Clawed aren’t the only highly anticipated dinosaur games in development — there’s also Instinction, The Lost Wild, and Ferocious.

There’s even a fanmade project in the works titled Cretaceous Kingdom, which previously went under the name Jurassic Park: Operations before creator Krenautican received a cease and desist from Universal demanding that they remove all Jurassic branding from the game.

The Jurassic Park/World franchise also faces some serious competition on the big screen with the upcoming film The End of Oak Street.

Directed by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows), the film stars Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) and Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep) as a couple whose family, along with their entire neighborhood, is transported back to the prehistoric era through a mysterious storm.

“After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings,” the official synopsis from Warner Bros. states.

The film releases on August 14 in IMAX.

While the Jurassic Park franchise will likely always be the apex predator of dinosaur movies, it still no longer has exclusivity over the very concept it birthed: a dinosaur theme park.
