Ever since George Lucas’ original Star Wars film (later given the subtitle A New Hope) arrived in theaters in 1977, Hamill has remained synonymous with the Jedi hero and, over the past decade, has reprised the role across movie sequels and two television appearances.

Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker Legacy
After returning for the sequel trilogy films — The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019) — Hamill once again surprised fans with appearances in The Mandalorian Season 2 (2020) and The Book of Boba Fett (2021), both of which used de-aging technology to revisit an earlier point in Luke Skywalker’s timeline following Return of the Jedi (1983), the final chapter in the original Star Wars trilogy.
Of course, Hamill’s career extends far beyond a galaxy far, far away. The actor is also regarded as one of the most prolific voice actors in Hollywood, particularly thanks to his legendary portrayal of The Joker across numerous Batman animated series, films, and video games. Now, however, Hamill is unlikely to return to another iconic role.

Hamill Has Played Another Iconic Character
Much like Hamill’s association with Luke Skywalker, actor Brad Dourif has become inseparable from the killer doll Chucky. Dourif first voiced the character in Child’s Play (1988) before returning for Child’s Play 2 (1990) and Child’s Play 3 (1991).
He later reprised the role throughout the franchise’s “Chucky” era, beginning with Bride of Chucky (1998), Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013), and Cult of Chucky (2017), before once again voicing the character in the television series Chucky (2021–2024), which was canceled in 2024 after three seasons.

However, Dourif briefly stepped away from the role in 2019 when MGM released a rebooted version of Child’s Play that had no direct connection to the original continuity.
In that film, Chucky was voiced by none other than Mark Hamill himself.
The reboot reimagined Chucky as an artificially intelligent “Buddi” doll rather than a serial killer inhabiting a toy through voodoo magic. While the film received mixed reactions from longtime fans, Hamill’s performance as the alternate version of Chucky was widely praised.
At present, there are no announced plans for either a sequel to the 2019 reboot or another installment in the mainline film series.

But Dourif has now made it clear that he has no intention of giving up the character.
During an appearance at Spooky Empire in Orlando, Florida (via CBR.com), the actor was asked by a fan whether he had any plans to “say goodbye” to Chucky now that he is “mostly retired.”
“Yeah, nobody’s doing Chucky but me,” Dourif responded, prompting loud applause from the audience.
For horror fans, the statement is reassuring news. While Hamill appears ready to move on from Luke Skywalker, Dourif has made it clear that Chucky still belongs to him.
Would you like to see Mark Hamill return to voice Chucky in another film? Or would you rather see him stick to Luke Skywalker while Brad Dourif continues to voice the killer doll? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
