Disney guests visiting EPCOT this week may notice something unusual at one of the park’s most recognizable landmarks. What normally serves as a patriotic centerpiece of World Showcase is suddenly sporting large white coverings that have left some fans wondering what exactly Disney is hiding.
The changes appeared seemingly overnight, and while Disney has not officially announced a major refurbishment project for the location, the timing is raising plenty of questions as America prepares to celebrate a historic milestone.

White Boxes Appear at The American Adventure
Guests visiting The American Adventure pavilion in EPCOT have discovered several columns at the attraction’s main entrance now covered by tall white boxes.
The temporary coverings block portions of the iconic façade and immediately stand out against the pavilion’s colonial-inspired architecture.
According to reports from the park, four columns flanking the primary entrance have been enclosed beneath the white structures. Similar coverings have also appeared on the entrance and exit columns located near Regal Eagle Smokehouse.
Disney has not publicly commented on the work, but longtime fans will recognize the boxes as a common sight during maintenance projects. The coverings are frequently used when crews are repainting, repairing, or preparing structures for decorative installations.
For now, guests can still enter and enjoy The American Adventure attraction as usual. The changes appear to be cosmetic rather than operational.
A Major Anniversary Is Almost Here
The timing of the project is particularly notable.
July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a milestone being celebrated nationwide. Disney has already confirmed several America-themed offerings across Walt Disney World as part of its broader Disney Celebrates America initiative.
That has fueled speculation that the white-covered columns could be receiving patriotic enhancements ahead of the holiday weekend. Some fans believe Disney may be preparing to install decorative banners or other anniversary-themed elements that will transform the pavilion for the celebration.
If that turns out to be the case, it would make sense for Disney to focus extra attention on The American Adventure, which has long served as EPCOT’s tribute to United States history and culture.

EPCOT’s Most Patriotic Pavilion
Located in World Showcase, The American Adventure remains one of EPCOT’s signature attractions. The pavilion combines colonial architecture, American history exhibits, dining, shopping, and the famous Audio-Animatronics stage production that tells the story of the nation through the voices of Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain.
The pavilion traditionally becomes one of EPCOT’s busiest locations during Independence Day celebrations.
In previous years, guests have been able to meet Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto dressed in their Spirit of ’76 costumes near the pavilion, creating one of the park’s most popular seasonal photo opportunities. Disney could once again bring those character appearances back this year while potentially adding even more offerings for the semiquincentennial celebration.
Special America 250 Experiences Already Arriving
Disney has already started rolling out limited-time food and beverage offerings connected to the anniversary celebration.
Among the current offerings are patriotic-themed treats available throughout Walt Disney World, including a Sam Eagle-inspired shortcake and a non-alcoholic beverage available at Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT. You can also take home the Sam Eagle popcorn bucket found in the parks.
The additions are part of a larger effort to spotlight American history and culture as the July 4 holiday approaches.
The timing also comes shortly after the opening of Soarin’ Across America, which recently replaced Soarin’ Around the World at EPCOT for a limited engagement.

For many Disney fans, the attraction’s return and the increased attention on The American Adventure create a distinctly patriotic atmosphere throughout the park.

Bigger Celebrations on the Horizon
The work underway at The American Adventure could be only one piece of a much larger celebration.
Disney previously announced that its Disney Celebrates America initiative will culminate with a 24-hour multi-platform broadcast during Fourth of July weekend. The event will feature fireworks from both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, with special Independence Day nighttime spectaculars planned on both coasts for three consecutive nights.
While Disney has yet to reveal whether additional decorations are coming to EPCOT’s American pavilion, the appearance of the white boxes strongly suggests preparations are underway.
For now, guests can only speculate about what lies underneath.
Whether Disney is simply freshening up the pavilion with a new coat of paint or preparing a more elaborate patriotic display, one thing is clear: EPCOT’s most iconic American landmark is getting some attention just weeks before one of the biggest Fourth of July celebrations in Disney history.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the changes happening across the parks at Walt Disney World Resort, including the upcoming celebrations.
