I went to Project Hail Mary 3 times in the theater. I took 2 different friends and then watched it with the directors commentary with the 3rd friend. I now own the streaming version. No added commentary or such will get me into theaters again for this like PHM did.
This movie failed it’s True believers. Coming off the heels of season 3 and looking for a bridge to Ashoka 2, that movie was a let down. A disappointment to what could’ve been. This commentary doesn’t begin to put a bandaid on the real wound which was bad storytelling.
Long time star wars super fan here. Have seen everything star wars except the very dark Darth maul series and a few other Disney mutations that I couldn’t choke down. This movie got rid of the traditional opening credits and the epic Star wars music was replaced with a watery version of old West space music that was soulless and dull. Super stupid plot that felt like a mid tv episode. For example, a professional bounty hunter would know that the hutts always have a trap door floor under their throne room. Duh. Why did he just stand there and wait for it to drop? He knows hutts are scumbags. 😑). And the bad guy who collected birds was like a weird but chill guy who didn’t seem like a notorious gangster. He was cheesy and anti climatic. And the mandalorian kills and stabs everyone, right in front of his child, without explanation or remorse. The kid can’t see his facial expressions so he’s not going to grow up with empathy. With all his powers little grogu is being trained to be a cold-hearted killer. He needs to be raised by zen peaceful Jedi’s who teach him to respect life and to grieve over the loss of life… Even Luke grieved over the ultra evil Darth Vader who had killed thousands of families with children and had tortured endless people with no remorse. If you can’t grieve the loss of a wicked being because it is good they were removed because of all they hurt, you can still grieve for their lost innocence and the world that made them that way.
The mandalorian and grogu was soulless and empty. While jabbas son added a touch of kindness and humanity, his revolting exterior and his empty eyes, made him difficult to connect with it to grieve over. When they tortured him it was more revolting to see a slimy lizard frog being being electrocuted, kindve like watching leia choke jabba. 🤮. Too much cold-hearted killing to be a kids movie. Moved slowly and adding sigourney weaver as a rebel leader did nothing for the movie. Reminded me of a producer giving an a lister a part as a favor he owed and wrote her in. Boring. The best part of the movie were the tiny puppet mechanics. Wish they had their own series.. That’s what I would do if I were creating the next chapter of star wars. Make it like jude laws series for kids.. Which was really fun! We all loved it.
It was fine, but I took my Wife and two kids at $22 for a standard showing plus caviar money for popcorn and drinks so all told it came out around $150 to watch a long TV episode.
After watching all the Disney+ episodes of The Mandelorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and their respective behind the scenes series, we were disappointed to learn that Mando season 4 was revised to a feature. But we enjoyed it twice; once in HD and once in I-MAX. But instead of 8 weekly hours of enjoyment, we got 2 hours of the same experience in comfy chairs. We’d much rather have had season 4 with the more content. Bad move, Jon.
I felt it was a disappointing mess. The first 30-45 minutes were fluff action sequences that felt off brand for Mando. After that, the second half of the movie felt like the show buy the movie still stunk. My wife and I, both huge fans of the show, left feeling disappointed.
As for Obsession: Curry Barker delivers chills in short YouTube installments all the time. So, a feature length movie by him sounds extremely appealing.
S1 was good and then S2 went boring. But the post is right. Pascal gets away with Liberalism all over social media and keeps his job. Carano makes one post that was even that political and gets fired because it’s conservative. I would’ve have stayed for S3 if Cara Dune was in it
It truly is astounding to me how many people cannot go 90 minutes without stuffing their face full of junk food or decide to not eat dinner BEFORE going out to the movies. Then they blame the film studio for their own poor economic choices. People are so dense.
Did you buy your whole family a bucket of popcorn each? It sounds to me like you should be budgeting your concessions decisions better. I use movie apps that give concession discounts and a free ticket every month with a roll-over feature. You should look into that.
Truth. We just go on Tuesdays when it’s cheap. It was not crowded, we got good seats, tickets cost $6, popcorn, lg. unlimited $5, same for lg. drink. About $40 for the 3 of us.
Fans of the “real” Star Wars aren’t buying this crap. Ditch the DEI stupidity, develop an interesting story, stop with the cutesy puppets, respect the source material, and maybe we’ll be back.
If Carl Weathers (deceased), Giancarlo Esposito (killed off), and Gina Carano were in the movie, along with a great villan such as Darth Maul or General Grevious, then the needs would have returned. The movie was still good for Star Wars OGs.
An honest assessment. They can’t make a 90 minute TV show and expect it to achieve critical acclaim with high marks. I didn’t see it but it sounds like the movie neither offers intrigue, nor lingering questions are hanging out there that can only be solved by a more in depth analysis of the film. Favaro is a good director but he’s got to explore the option of using the Lore and books to tie back into the story line. Believe it or not you have to do more fan service by dropping subtle lines and easter eggs through out the movie. Then you have to get people to reveal those easter eggs on social media. So people want to rewatch the movie to proof the Easter egg
Star Wars fatigue has been setting in for a while now. And there was no real reason to do a big screen version of this. It was just a money grab. They should have stayed with the series format.
That particular to have director insight DURING the movie is a no-go for me. If they wanted to insert that special piece into the movie, albeit, let it happen at the end of the movie. In the same manner a Marvel or DC movie would do… at the end.
Is was a bad movie, period. Not up to Jon Favreau standards. I’ll save you the $20. Here comes a big monster, and then a bigger one, then a bigger one than that. Mando wins. The end.
if I had 3 or more thumbs, all of them would be down for this flop. Stupid plot. Horrific acting, and tried so hard to be cute when I don’t remember cute as something that drew me to Star Wars initially. Nothing will fix it other than to start over.
I never watched the show so I never watched the movie. As cute as I find Grogu, I didn’t want to spend the money to watch a film in the theater I might not be able to follow because I never watched the show.
You really dont need to see the series to understand what is going on for the most part. They did a good job in that regard for people that haven’t seen the show
Wow, just wow if they think releasing the comments version that goes with a DVD release is going to draw MORE viewers. Not going to happen. Now if they added deleted scenes and an alternative ending or the deleted scenes changed the story, THAT I would go see.
Let me get this straight, as a Dad you want me to shell out 100$ to go see a movie that I already spend 25$ a month on for Disney plus which is what season 4 wouldve been. Then you find out its some watered down pg bullshit for the plush doll sales, not an actual bounty hunter pg13, nc17, or hard R rating. Yeahhhhh im gonna get nothing out of this so I and my kid will wait for it to hit Disney plus.
What taj mahal movie theaters do you people go to? AMC, Regal, and NCG have value nights. If your budgeting go then and stop stomping your feet. Good golly. See it. Don’t see it. But please stop crying about it.
To me it should have stayed a tv series. I dont hardly go see movies any way anymore. But im not goung going to go pay movie prices for something ive been watching on tv no matter what it is. Some might but i wont. Now if they would have taken the same characters and inserted them into another star wars tale, i might have been interested cause i do like the characters. But just taking something ypu already have on tv and making a movie out of it just because you want more money just sparks me the wrong way.
See that is the problem. You should have had to see the show to know what’s going on in the movie. The whole point is to continue a story of that time period not make a new story with characters no one actually cares about
With that kind of thought, you would never see any movie. Almost all movies are made to be able to understand the basic precepts without having seen the other ones before or in this case the tv episodes to enjoy it. Not much different than videogames. You dont have to have played the first in a series to enjoy the second or third. Obviously you just wasnt that interested in it or you would have watched the disney plus show, you can get apps like that for free for a while so cost isnt a concern. Just easier to say that.
Exactly my reasoning as well! I wanted to go for mybday, but i hadnt watched the series yet. So saw a different movie. Im a huge starwars fan though! I would have watched it otherwise.
Well we went to see it last Tuesday. It was more epic that I was expecting. It was a good length, fun story and better than two plus hours if the TV series! My only complaint is we saw it in Ultra AVX 3D and it was often too dark. I watched the trailer on my OLED TV at home and it was significantly brighter. I don’t know if the Imax version was brighter as our closest IMAX is an hour’s drive away.
Anyhow we liked the three seasons of the Mandalorian in Disney plus and the movie was even higher caliber than the series.
I won’t pay to see a commentary version however I would buy the 4K Blu-ray version if it’s done well.
Feloni is the issue. He and Kathleen Kennedy have destroyed what was once an IP lived by everyone and they did it for the “modern audience”, an audience that doesn’t seem to go to movies all that much. Here’s an idea, quit trying to suck up to everyone and just make a good Star Wars movie. Even if everyone doesn’t enjoy it, the majority will.
Sooo, something that will obviously be included on the dvd is now available in theater. It’s a novel idea, I’ll admit that. But I wouldn’t want to see it in a theater.
I thought they were going to say they added some cut scenes. That might bring in moviegoers for a 2 time. But a commentary while trying to watch a film in the theater?? That’s a non-starter for me.
As others have mentioned, with the price of theater tickets and snacks, I’m limiting myself to 1 to 2 theater visits per year. Next up.. Spiderman 3.4
I’ll just have to shamble through the rest of the content on my tiny 85″ 8K home theater.
I’ll bring my own popcorn from the kitchen.
Disney is shooting itself in the proverbial foot once again. No one wants to hear commentary while the movie is playing. This is a poor excuse for more bullshit. I grew up with Disney movies. Disney is a delusional bunch of asshats that continue to put out lackluster entertainment. I patiently await the end of Disney. I think it will be sooner than expected.
I will never pay to watch hear Jon Favreau talking about why he chose to do the scene the way he did.
Stop catering to the “woke”. Write a good Star Wars movie. Hire a director that wants to make a movie and can keep their opinions separate from the movie.
No one wants to hear what these actors and directors think, we want to be entertained without feeling preached too.
Uh, Start wars was never woke, until Disney and Kathleen “the force is female” Kennedy hijacked it. You can say that until your blue in the face, it will never be true.
Save your breath. Anyone still complaining about “woke” in 2026 has a worldview and IQ that is AT BEST so incredibly average they never understood the underlying messages of Star Wars to begin with just the *pew pew*…
What the hell does director commentary have to do with being “woke?” It’s a pretty common thing to include with DVD or Blu-Ray releases. Eventually, they even release commentary as a streaming option.
That being said, this movie was pretty terrible. My wife and I loved the show but we left the movie feeling meh, at best, and we both think they just killed the franchise. I wouldn’t go watch a sequel and kind of regret paying to see it in Imax.
I figure it this way. I am already paying for Disney+ and Hulu and ESPN. So why would I go to the movie theatre and sit in a crowd of strangers who can’t STFU and leave trash everywhere. when I can just wait to stream it at home. I can’t afford the tickets or the concessions, heck for what Disney charges for their streaming for a year is cheaper than 1 night at the movie theatre.
I am a legacy star wars fan. A new hope on opening day in the best theater in Kansas City. I love everything but skeleton crew (too juvenile for my 55 yrs), but no way I’m seeing this in theater and the only rework version I want is expand it back out to season 4 on Disney.
I am a Star Wars fan, but you lost me by having to sign up for Disney Channel to follow along. Why not allow Amazon Prime to join in the fun. I can’t afford both… so you lost me as a fan.
If u were or are a star wars fan, i think you would have gotten disney plus. Plus ypu can usually get those things for free for a limited time at different times. So not watching it is on you. Amazon prime has its own stuff, you can make the same argument against them. Its just a movie, not rocket science. Wouldnt even had to have seen the show to follow along.
the problem these days is the focus on money , gone are the days of howard Hughes and love for he story line and the message, we need more films that tell an epic tale and stimulate our imagination further than we can imagine lol. I say make the next mandalorian movie regardless of cost , in the future any starwars movie will be a standout epic tale that everyone will have in their DVD collection. All and Every Starwars movie is an instant classic in my opinion, the whole Universe carries that vibe.
Movies will always just be Movies but Franchises Like Starwars are immortal!
All of can say is serves yall right@ Lucasfilm, @ Disney!
I’ve preached to all I know from the start f.. the movie nonsense,
Continue with season 4,5 ,6,7,8 of the Mandalorian make it well make it lead into a bright future of a series with a decent ending!
Expand it collab with other arms of the SW universe like ashoka and so on!
But please leave tv series tv series.. and stop with forcing it on the movie screens …!
I agree with you on this. I dont go to movies hardly at all anymore, doesnt matter how much i like them. I avg maybe a movie a year. It was a great series on tv, should have stayed there though i figure the movie is still good.
I loved the movie and I loved the series. I wish they would bring it back. Pedro Pascal is an amazing actor and plays the fatherly role nicely (Joel in The Last of Us was 5 stars). Plus the Grogu acts like a toddler, often finding himself in some sticky situations or being a hero and using the force to rescue his Papa, Mando.
Will I be buying this once it goes to Fandango at home? Absolutely.
Will I watch the commentary version? No. As much as I would love to go see it again in theaters, I would prefer to hide in a tiny hut to small to cover me completely, and repeatedly smack my head on the wall. And I wouldn’t even need someone to use the force.
The odeon in Liverpool one, the main cinema in Liverpool didn’t even have a single showing less than a week after the release. It literally came out on the Friday and the final showing was the following Thursday, so maybe they should consider longer times in the cinema.
But also this movie is just a money grab, the series ended perfectly at the end of season 3
It’s fairly easy to research and find out that the Disney Star Wars have made a joke out of the Star Wars universe. Not really sure how anyone is surprised at the outcome of this movie. The films are catering to kids and teens now, that’s Disney’s audience now…so how would that same audience find themselves paying twice for a commentary version? The films are visually stunning, but what sci-fi films aren’t these days…
Hey Neef Herder, the franchise always catered to kids, did you somehow miss the countless merch (cereal, playsets, action figures, pajamas, bed sets, underwear, ad nausem, etc.) or did you somewhow think it was all somehow aimed solely at adults?
Hey, squeeze into these Darth Vader Underoos, big guy!
Haha!
I watched it…thought it was fun. I will not watch it again with a voiceover.
For me, star wars has lost its ‘event’ status. It used to be a star wars film release was super exciting. After the lackluster sequel trilogy and some hit and some miss streaming series, there is no excitment anymore. I guess people just do not care anymore.
In my opinion they suck at both. mando season 3 boring, book of Boba boring, acolyte really really bad writing. sW episode 8 horrible Episode 9 also bad. The reality is Disney doesn’t know how to tell stories within the star wars universe. Even their good stuff was based off of previous stories. Anything new they have came up with has been dumb.
I loved the movie! I thought it was great. The Mandalorian in my opinion was never really part of the Star Wars saga so I don’t see how people expected that it should’ve given any insight to any of the other ones. The only crossover it had was Boba Fett and we all know that was a flop. But the Mandalorian lasted several seasons. I had planned on seeing it a few more times regardless of any changes.
It just doesn’t work as a theater release because it’s history is on streaming. I haven’t seen it yet. We are going tomorrow. My son doesn’t want to go because he only saw the first season. It should have been season 4. Disney has lost its way with Star Wars. The higher ups just can’t stop tampering with the formula.
As a Star Wars fan I went to see the movie in theatres. It wasn’t all that bad although I must admit there was a section that was a bit slow moving.
But the issue is that it is a Disney Plus series. And the series are so good, that moving it into a movie seemed too rushed. I don’t believe the movie failed because of its content….more because bringing a series to the screen doesn’t really work. It condenses a series into 90 minutes or so. So it makes a viewer feel they are missing stuff.
I get Disney thought they’d connect to different viewers. But I don’t think they get how big Streaming has become over theatre viewing/ pricing. It will probably do better when it streams on tv.
Question for you guys have you ever tried to rewatch the Mando Series. I can barely get through episode one without falling asleep. And I love Star wars. We have to remember when this show came out the hype was real and we would take anything that was star wars at the time just because we haven’t had much. Now we are here
I suspect that Pedro is done having Mando take up so much of his time. That’s probably the real reason they turned the last season into a movie. The movie itself is fun if you go into it expecting what it is and not hoping for some big thing like the numbered Star Wars movies or Rogue One. To be completely honest, this movie didn’t need to exist. What we should be getting is a movie about Thrawn’s return to the galaxy and the problems it causes but they have already committed that story line to Ahsoka S2 instead. The creators at Disney have mismanaged Star Wars from the very beginning. They have disillusioned their core fan base in favor of trying to make to much money to fast with things that don’t need to exist. By committing to unliked storylines and unneeded plays for larger audiences, they have forgotten what made Star Wars fun in the first place.
Will not be spending money to watch something that is so obviously a cash grab. I feel like the depended too much on the cuteness of grogu in something that should have never left streaming.
I’d like to see comparison numbers between a streaming season of Mando vs the movie. The Mandalorian almost singlehandedly put Disney+ on the map. This does feel like a cash-grab. A short term cash-grab at the expense of killing a franchise. Paramount learned with Star Trek that Sci Fi in general is a niche audience that will not produce insane box office numbers at the theater. But the Series on their streamer do well. I believe this is where Star Wars needs to live. I hope Disney learns this lesson early.
Even before Pedro Pascal went political I was never interested in the Mandalorian but I do like the music from the series just because I love good intense music. I tried listening to the music from the movie (which I did not watch and never will) and it was just as watered down and boring as I hear the movie was. Disney made a mistake in believing this movie would make over a billion dollars in the theater and instead should’ve made it another season and put it straight to Disney plus.
And anyone who thinks Disney will learn their lesson is just as crazy as the company. If Disney didn’t learn their lesson on the woke leftwing movie failures like Brown Dirt Snow White, Mulan remake, Wokeyear and the Little Black Mermaid remake chances are they never will. They don’t want to learn because it’s all about pleasing the minority aka the woke left. Anyone who doesn’t want to watch Disney’s crud anymore are classified as -cists, -phobics and -ots and pedros idea of “man babies” (FYI he kisses other men so he doesn’t even know what a real man is). Disney will continue to release content the majority doesn’t want and lose millions as long as there are still shills to eat it like an innocent baby eats what mommy feeds it from a jar
Hmm my comment was marked as “awaiting moderation” because I used the naughty word “f e e d s” in it. In case it’s deleted I’ll repeat it but edit.
Even before Pedro Pascal went political I was never interested in the Mandalorian because I’m just not a fan of Disney Star Wars. However I’ve listened to the music from the series and loved it just because I love good intense music. I tried listening to the music from the movie I definitely did not watch and it was just as watered down and boring as I hear the movie was. (If children didn’t want to see it and even adults fell asleep in the theater that’s not a good sign for a movie)
Disney made a mistake in believing this movie could make a billion dollars just because it’s the first Star Wars movie to air in theaters in years. They should’ve just made it into another series and have Grogu be a little older. People are just fatigued with his baby stage now.
Anyone who thinks Disney will learn their lesson after this is just as crazy as the company. If they didn’t learn their lesson after the woke failures like Brown Dirt Snow White remake, Mulan remake, Wokeyear and the Little Black Mermaid they never will learn because they don’t have the brainpower to learn. It’s all about pleasing the minority aka the woke left the heck with anyone else because if you want sit there and consume all the random leftwing messaging and ideology you’re classified as -cists -phobics and -ots and pedros idea of man babies. (FYI he kisses men so he doesn’t even know what a real man is)
Disney will continue to push content the majority doesn’t want and lose millions as long as there are a handful of shills to eat it like an innocent baby eats what mommy spoon f e e d s it from a jar
I think the bigger observation is that many just cannot afford the theater prices too much anymore. I saw it at an early matinee time but can’t afford a return viewing.
I wouldn’t entirely blame theater prices when people flocked to go see Zootopia 2 and horrible Lilo and Stitch remake. Disney Star Wars is just dead. Politics helped kill it.
A commentary, why? It is not going to fix this. I was expecting something different! I was expecting the same or better then what we already have seen. It would have been fantastic for it to have stayed with the Star Wars formula. Continue where their story left off. It was just an adventure story not a true evil verse’s good! Not the way Star Wars series goes.
I’m a woman and I like Star Wars. But not Disney Star Wars. I used to like the original trilogy untill Mark Hamill ruined that for me and I don’t care for them anymore. So I got more interested in the prequels. I actually wanted to see Obi Wan but eventually let it slip my mind.
Never watched the Mandalorian. The idea of a man of an armored suit out saving the galaxy and bringing justice is intriguing to me but because he’s played by a girly soy boy who’s probably never touched a hamburger in his life and he’s always got to be saved by a powerful baby that apparently will never grow up it just ruins the masculinity of it all. I could’ve written the whole franchise better. Real men, who Star Wars used to be targeted for, aren’t going to care for and stay enamored about a gibbering fifty year old baby.
True dat, give him a girlfriend instead of that dumb baby puppet. If you want the Force in that franchise let her have the Force and use it to help him when absolutely necessary but don’t let her be an empowered, high and mighty attitude girlboss and they will get engaged or married at the very end of the series after he takes his helmet off and they kiss and lived happily ever after. The end.
Another thing that didn’t help this movie were Pedros rants about the red voters. If you don’t want someone’s business fine you won’t get it but don’t go pitching hissies when they comply. That’s pretty much you saying you’d rather have had their business so don’t slam them in first place. It also proves that red voters are a great deal of the audience if not the majority.
Another thing that’s dumb is blaming Trump for the movie’s failure when he had no involvement whatsoever. I suppose it was Trump’s fault for the movies that tanked during Biden’s term? The entitled stars are always the ones to drive the red voters away and there were even some blue voters who weren’t interested in the movie so there. A bad movie is a bad movie. Even children were just not interested in it.
My son and I are big fans of Star Wars. We couldn’t wait to see The Mandalorian and Grogu. We even went to a 3D IMAX to get the full effect. We were very disappointed in it. The hype just wasn’t working. Sorry. Still a fan, but probably won’t be seeing the new version. It’s just too expensive to pay for a movie we have already seen and disappointed in.
If they made a commentary featuring all the comments on YouTube I’ve read being negative about Pedro, baby yoda, the shills who thought it would make two billion dollars and the movie itself I’d probably pay to watch that. The audience comments are more entertaining! 😂
Dumb. It was great, as it is. Taking too much pressure to blow the doors off – I am NOT going back for a “commentary” version and would have not seen it in the 1st place is that was the version offered.
Not sure my voice means anything, considering the box office numbers telling the story. This release was clearly a mistake. The success was in the television series which allowed opportunity to fill in the details (like a book does versus a movie). It shakes my confidence in coming releases. Has this franchise lost its way? I guess we’ll see soon enough.
Coming in HOT! Boycott Disney! The Corp Board showed their TRUE Colors, by taking marching orders from the Ultimate ” Disturbance in the Force” A lot of us continue to DECIDE with our Wallet…
I have been offered Disney for FREE… ZERO DOLLARS… and I still won’t do it…
This isn’t Lucasfilm’s fault, it’s Disney’s for forcing them to make a movie when the story works best as a show. It’s not a bad movie but people want to see something new at the theater, this film was missing lore. It would have done better if it was connected more to the overall story.
The so called fake fans killed Star Wars they drove Lucas to sell after bashing him for the prequels and they bash Disney for making junk. Why not be happy that we are getting content and enjoy the Star Wars universe
..and as a burger fan should I be forced to be happy with a NO MEAT veggie burger??
Adam-this is NOT AT ALL “Star Wars”-its “disney star wars”-which has NEVER been “star wars”…
….trust me! I was in the theater in 1977 at the ripe old age of 11 so i KNOW from whence I speak…
So “NO!” No one should simply “be satisfied” that we are at least getting “content”……to us REAL FANS we don’t just want “content”….
What we SHOULD have gotten were the 3 film treatments that George had ALREADY MADE, Han Luke & Leia baby all the way………but disney in its ultimate broken woke brain chose to turn our beloved universe into a slop filled, girl boss, WOKE version that NEVER existed in the REAL UNIVERSE that George Lucas created….
….so excuse US if we skip this lower level CRAP that disney has attempted to force down our gullets….
…bow if you must disney simp, but the REAL fans will continue to reject!!
This version of Star Wars was fast paced, maybe a product of trying to put 6 episodes of TV into a 2 hour movie. The pacing and action made it hectic to follow the plot, as it was, and the
“character” tie ins to the lore of Star Wars were stretched to the extreme. Some of the scenes were a bit much for younger kids. I wasn’t thrilled with it and miss Han, Luke and the heroes of my youth.
I’m a huge fan of the Mandalorian series. The film was like a 2-hour episode. Serious Mandalorian fans want to see the rebuilding of Mandalor, the uniting of the Mandalorian factions, Bokatan continuing to work with the Armorer to unite the mandalorian’s as they fight the Empire, and Din Jarin training his apprentice, Grogu. Jon Favreau, bring on Season 4.
Overall it was a decent movie the problem is that it came during a summer of hits like almost every week so people are going to spend money on those and not rewarches of Mand
“The film opened to $165 million globally in its first weekend — a number that matched its production budget almost exactly, offering little cushion.”
Obviously YOU HAVE NO IDEA how the box office $$ work do you?
First off: The supposed 165 million $$ cost does not figure in 2 things: First: the cost of MARKETING, which was easily in the 200 million $$ range on how much they blitzed this film-Plus, this 165 Million $ production cost did NOT figure in the costs of Weaver, Pascal, or its expensive director writers-I have seen the cost sheet myself and they are no where to be found on it. You think they worked for free?
So the REAL COST to Disney to produce, market and distribute this crap was easily a whopping 400 Million $$ +…..and of course Disney will lie to us about that…..
What this means is that to break even it would need an 800 Million $$ cume box office JUST TO BREAK EVEN as the theaters take 50% of the box office $$ that come in….
At its current box office rate, which as I type is 294 million $$, which is 100 million LESS than Solo, which was the WORST Disney Star wars box office til now, “Mando & Grogu” will set Disney back at minimum 250 million $$!
I am certain the shareholders will be ecstatic to hear this news…
Waiting 4 years to bring out a movie was ridiculous. The core audience has grown up and moved on to other things. They screwed the pooch waiting so long. They should have just kept the Disney+ version and brought the series to a close, it would have been a fitting end to The Mandalorian, not a footnote in Star Wars history. Also they never should have brought it out on a holiday weekend that starts the summer and most people go on vacation. It is almost like Disney just wanted to end Star Wars with a wimper not a bang.
Comments for Confirmed: Star Wars To Release New Version of ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Effective Immediately
Gerry
A directors commentary ain’t saving this movie, lol. It’s so freaking hilarious that a Disney film got beat out by a low budget YouTube movie!
John
Sounds like a Hail Mary, but wait, that’s already been done!
Beverly Porter
I went to Project Hail Mary 3 times in the theater. I took 2 different friends and then watched it with the directors commentary with the 3rd friend. I now own the streaming version. No added commentary or such will get me into theaters again for this like PHM did.
Scott Samuels
Disney should have gone with a season 4 of the Mandalorian and Grogu and not a movie.
Laura
You took the exact same words out of my mouth.

Sam
It was fine, but I took my Wife and two kids at $22 for a standard showing plus caviar money for popcorn and drinks so all told it came out around $150 to watch a long TV episode.
QuarterMaster
What a waste of money
Jim H
After watching all the Disney+ episodes of The Mandelorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and their respective behind the scenes series, we were disappointed to learn that Mando season 4 was revised to a feature. But we enjoyed it twice; once in HD and once in I-MAX. But instead of 8 weekly hours of enjoyment, we got 2 hours of the same experience in comfy chairs. We’d much rather have had season 4 with the more content. Bad move, Jon.
Rob
I felt it was a disappointing mess. The first 30-45 minutes were fluff action sequences that felt off brand for Mando. After that, the second half of the movie felt like the show buy the movie still stunk. My wife and I, both huge fans of the show, left feeling disappointed.
As for Obsession: Curry Barker delivers chills in short YouTube installments all the time. So, a feature length movie by him sounds extremely appealing.
Geoff
Go Woke, Go Broke !!! Pascal’s politics killed this series
Lew
Stop bro this series is just straight bad no need to bring politics into it
JMC
S1 was good and then S2 went boring. But the post is right. Pascal gets away with Liberalism all over social media and keeps his job. Carano makes one post that was even that political and gets fired because it’s conservative. I would’ve have stayed for S3 if Cara Dune was in it
MSinSchertz
Lol, what politics?
SpaceX
Yours, probably
John
What ??? $150 for this crap
Dee
It truly is astounding to me how many people cannot go 90 minutes without stuffing their face full of junk food or decide to not eat dinner BEFORE going out to the movies. Then they blame the film studio for their own poor economic choices. People are so dense.
Khari Lane
Did you buy your whole family a bucket of popcorn each? It sounds to me like you should be budgeting your concessions decisions better. I use movie apps that give concession discounts and a free ticket every month with a roll-over feature. You should look into that.
MSinSchertz
Truth. We just go on Tuesdays when it’s cheap. It was not crowded, we got good seats, tickets cost $6, popcorn, lg. unlimited $5, same for lg. drink. About $40 for the 3 of us.
Xraygal
A very stupid investment 🙄
David
Fans of the “real” Star Wars aren’t buying this crap. Ditch the DEI stupidity, develop an interesting story, stop with the cutesy puppets, respect the source material, and maybe we’ll be back.
Eddie
If Carl Weathers (deceased), Giancarlo Esposito (killed off), and Gina Carano were in the movie, along with a great villan such as Darth Maul or General Grevious, then the needs would have returned. The movie was still good for Star Wars OGs.
Bob
Stewart
At this moment in the time line both maul and previous are dead.
Khari Lane
The real problem with He said a good villain like them. He wasn’t suggesting those specific bad guys
General Organa's Morning coffee
Star Wars fatigue has been setting in for a while now. And there was no real reason to do a big screen version of this. It was just a money grab. They should have stayed with the series format.
Lew
Series format or big screen either way it was going to be a bust. The book of Boba and Mando season 3 ruined this series imo
Frankie
That particular to have director insight DURING the movie is a no-go for me. If they wanted to insert that special piece into the movie, albeit, let it happen at the end of the movie. In the same manner a Marvel or DC movie would do… at the end.
Terry Nystrom
Agree.
Andrea
Agree wholeheartedly
Abe
Disney wars=shit
Jaws6466
Is was a bad movie, period. Not up to Jon Favreau standards. I’ll save you the $20. Here comes a big monster, and then a bigger one, then a bigger one than that. Mando wins. The end.
Laura
You took the exact same words out of my mouth.
Bk
if I had 3 or more thumbs, all of them would be down for this flop. Stupid plot. Horrific acting, and tried so hard to be cute when I don’t remember cute as something that drew me to Star Wars initially. Nothing will fix it other than to start over.
Juni
I never watched the show so I never watched the movie. As cute as I find Grogu, I didn’t want to spend the money to watch a film in the theater I might not be able to follow because I never watched the show.
Todd R Hudson
You really dont need to see the series to understand what is going on for the most part. They did a good job in that regard for people that haven’t seen the show
Gary
Wow, just wow if they think releasing the comments version that goes with a DVD release is going to draw MORE viewers. Not going to happen. Now if they added deleted scenes and an alternative ending or the deleted scenes changed the story, THAT I would go see.
Andrea
Yes!
Greg B
Let me get this straight, as a Dad you want me to shell out 100$ to go see a movie that I already spend 25$ a month on for Disney plus which is what season 4 wouldve been. Then you find out its some watered down pg bullshit for the plush doll sales, not an actual bounty hunter pg13, nc17, or hard R rating. Yeahhhhh im gonna get nothing out of this so I and my kid will wait for it to hit Disney plus.
Bill
What taj mahal movie theaters do you people go to? AMC, Regal, and NCG have value nights. If your budgeting go then and stop stomping your feet. Good golly. See it. Don’t see it. But please stop crying about it.
David:The Duke of Everything
To me it should have stayed a tv series. I dont hardly go see movies any way anymore. But im not goung going to go pay movie prices for something ive been watching on tv no matter what it is. Some might but i wont. Now if they would have taken the same characters and inserted them into another star wars tale, i might have been interested cause i do like the characters. But just taking something ypu already have on tv and making a movie out of it just because you want more money just sparks me the wrong way.
Lew
See that is the problem. You should have had to see the show to know what’s going on in the movie. The whole point is to continue a story of that time period not make a new story with characters no one actually cares about
David:The Duke of Everything
With that kind of thought, you would never see any movie. Almost all movies are made to be able to understand the basic precepts without having seen the other ones before or in this case the tv episodes to enjoy it. Not much different than videogames. You dont have to have played the first in a series to enjoy the second or third. Obviously you just wasnt that interested in it or you would have watched the disney plus show, you can get apps like that for free for a while so cost isnt a concern. Just easier to say that.
KB
Exactly my reasoning as well! I wanted to go for mybday, but i hadnt watched the series yet. So saw a different movie. Im a huge starwars fan though! I would have watched it otherwise.
Terry Proveau
Todd R Hudson
I saw it in a Dolby theater. I find it like it better then imax on some movies. It was very vibrant not dark for us
Terry Nystrom
Agree
Walrus
Should have stayed on small screen as season 4
Dirk
Feloni is the issue. He and Kathleen Kennedy have destroyed what was once an IP lived by everyone and they did it for the “modern audience”, an audience that doesn’t seem to go to movies all that much. Here’s an idea, quit trying to suck up to everyone and just make a good Star Wars movie. Even if everyone doesn’t enjoy it, the majority will.
Red_xwing
Dee
Its your own fault if you can’t go 90 minutes without stuffing your face with expensive theater junk food. Self control. Practice it.
G
Lol get a life dee
Xray
She has a life….because she doesn’t shell out ridiculous amount of money for theatre snacks.
Dave
Disney is shooting itself in the proverbial foot once again. No one wants to hear commentary while the movie is playing. This is a poor excuse for more bullshit. I grew up with Disney movies. Disney is a delusional bunch of asshats that continue to put out lackluster entertainment. I patiently await the end of Disney. I think it will be sooner than expected.
Lisa
I enjoyed the movie but there was no reason for them to not continue a successful series. Bring back the series!!!
Jeffrey
I will never pay to watch hear Jon Favreau talking about why he chose to do the scene the way he did.
Stop catering to the “woke”. Write a good Star Wars movie. Hire a director that wants to make a movie and can keep their opinions separate from the movie.
No one wants to hear what these actors and directors think, we want to be entertained without feeling preached too.
Sochilln
Dude Star Wars is woke! And if you dont know that by now then you should hang up your light saber and go to another franchise.
Jay
Uh, Start wars was never woke, until Disney and Kathleen “the force is female” Kennedy hijacked it. You can say that until your blue in the face, it will never be true.
DREW
Save your breath. Anyone still complaining about “woke” in 2026 has a worldview and IQ that is AT BEST so incredibly average they never understood the underlying messages of Star Wars to begin with just the *pew pew*…
Rob
What the hell does director commentary have to do with being “woke?” It’s a pretty common thing to include with DVD or Blu-Ray releases. Eventually, they even release commentary as a streaming option.
That being said, this movie was pretty terrible. My wife and I loved the show but we left the movie feeling meh, at best, and we both think they just killed the franchise. I wouldn’t go watch a sequel and kind of regret paying to see it in Imax.
Lew
Kinda valid statement here.
Star wars is a fantasy people go to watch Star wars movies to escape from reality a little bit not be reminded what a horrible world we live in.
Matt
I figure it this way. I am already paying for Disney+ and Hulu and ESPN. So why would I go to the movie theatre and sit in a crowd of strangers who can’t STFU and leave trash everywhere. when I can just wait to stream it at home. I can’t afford the tickets or the concessions, heck for what Disney charges for their streaming for a year is cheaper than 1 night at the movie theatre.
No
Fantastic! Now we get to experience people talking over the movie In surround sound AND from the other audience members.
KenM
If it’s any consolation there probably won’t be any other audience members… 🤷🏻♂️
Lifefan
I am a legacy star wars fan. A new hope on opening day in the best theater in Kansas City. I love everything but skeleton crew (too juvenile for my 55 yrs), but no way I’m seeing this in theater and the only rework version I want is expand it back out to season 4 on Disney.
AB
I am a Star Wars fan, but you lost me by having to sign up for Disney Channel to follow along. Why not allow Amazon Prime to join in the fun. I can’t afford both… so you lost me as a fan.
David:The Duke of Everything
If u were or are a star wars fan, i think you would have gotten disney plus. Plus ypu can usually get those things for free for a limited time at different times. So not watching it is on you. Amazon prime has its own stuff, you can make the same argument against them. Its just a movie, not rocket science. Wouldnt even had to have seen the show to follow along.
Conrad Nagahiro
the problem these days is the focus on money , gone are the days of howard Hughes and love for he story line and the message, we need more films that tell an epic tale and stimulate our imagination further than we can imagine lol.
Fabian
All of can say is serves yall right@ Lucasfilm, @ Disney!
I’ve preached to all I know from the start f.. the movie nonsense,
Continue with season 4,5 ,6,7,8 of the Mandalorian make it well make it lead into a bright future of a series with a decent ending!
Expand it collab with other arms of the SW universe like ashoka and so on!
But please leave tv series tv series.. and stop with forcing it on the movie screens …!
David:The Duke of Everything
I agree with you on this. I dont go to movies hardly at all anymore, doesnt matter how much i like them. I avg maybe a movie a year. It was a great series on tv, should have stayed there though i figure the movie is still good.
Virginia
Teresa Harwick
You need serious help if you like Pedro
Gena
Let me guess…you’re a Brendan Wayne fan? And/or a ultra-conservative? LOL.
Kim
The odeon in Liverpool one, the main cinema in Liverpool didn’t even have a single showing less than a week after the release. It literally came out on the Friday and the final showing was the following Thursday, so maybe they should consider longer times in the cinema.
But also this movie is just a money grab, the series ended perfectly at the end of season 3
NF
It’s fairly easy to research and find out that the Disney Star Wars have made a joke out of the Star Wars universe. Not really sure how anyone is surprised at the outcome of this movie. The films are catering to kids and teens now, that’s Disney’s audience now…so how would that same audience find themselves paying twice for a commentary version? The films are visually stunning, but what sci-fi films aren’t these days…
Dee
Hey Neef Herder, the franchise always catered to kids, did you somehow miss the countless merch (cereal, playsets, action figures, pajamas, bed sets, underwear, ad nausem, etc.) or did you somewhow think it was all somehow aimed solely at adults?
Hey, squeeze into these Darth Vader Underoos, big guy!
Haha!
Harry
Do you need mental help or what?
PeterL
I watched it…thought it was fun. I will not watch it again with a voiceover.
For me, star wars has lost its ‘event’ status. It used to be a star wars film release was super exciting. After the lackluster sequel trilogy and some hit and some miss streaming series, there is no excitment anymore. I guess people just do not care anymore.
Alfred
I hope Disney learns something after this experience.
There’s a difference between writing for TV and writing for a Movie.
A low budget you tube movie was better crafted story…lol..
Americano
Disney? Learn? Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! 😂
Lew
In my opinion they suck at both. mando season 3 boring, book of Boba boring, acolyte really really bad writing. sW episode 8 horrible Episode 9 also bad. The reality is Disney doesn’t know how to tell stories within the star wars universe. Even their good stuff was based off of previous stories. Anything new they have came up with has been dumb.
Shirley
I loved the movie! I thought it was great. The Mandalorian in my opinion was never really part of the Star Wars saga so I don’t see how people expected that it should’ve given any insight to any of the other ones. The only crossover it had was Boba Fett and we all know that was a flop. But the Mandalorian lasted several seasons. I had planned on seeing it a few more times regardless of any changes.
Americano
My sympathies
Jane
It just doesn’t work as a theater release because it’s history is on streaming. I haven’t seen it yet. We are going tomorrow. My son doesn’t want to go because he only saw the first season. It should have been season 4. Disney has lost its way with Star Wars. The higher ups just can’t stop tampering with the formula.
Vanessa
Lew
Question for you guys have you ever tried to rewatch the Mando Series. I can barely get through episode one without falling asleep. And I love Star wars. We have to remember when this show came out the hype was real and we would take anything that was star wars at the time just because we haven’t had much. Now we are here
JC
Ok say to the ones who showed up for the first do we get a free ticket for the “New One” or refund!!?? Kinda BS is this!!??
Khari Lane
Night Fury
The Mandalorian just needed a non-girlboss woman companion instead of that dumb baby and marry her at the very end of the series
Jim
Will not be spending money to watch something that is so obviously a cash grab. I feel like the depended too much on the cuteness of grogu in something that should have never left streaming.
Andrew I
I’d like to see comparison numbers between a streaming season of Mando vs the movie.
Americano
Cabron
Disney…. that is all….
Americano
Qdiva
I think the bigger observation is that many just cannot afford the theater prices too much anymore. I saw it at an early matinee time but can’t afford a return viewing.
Night Fury
I wouldn’t entirely blame theater prices when people flocked to go see Zootopia 2 and horrible Lilo and Stitch remake. Disney Star Wars is just dead. Politics helped kill it.
PepperStark
A commentary, why? It is not going to fix this. I was expecting something different! I was expecting the same or better then what we already have seen. It would have been fantastic for it to have stayed with the Star Wars formula. Continue where their story left off. It was just an adventure story not a true evil verse’s good! Not the way Star Wars series goes.
Anti-Woke Wars
Night Fury
True dat, give him a girlfriend instead of that dumb baby puppet. If you want the Force in that franchise let her have the Force and use it to help him when absolutely necessary but don’t let her be an empowered, high and mighty attitude girlboss and they will get engaged or married at the very end of the series after he takes his helmet off and they kiss and lived happily ever after. The end.
Rick
What idiot thought adding commentary to a theatrical movie, is gonna bring more people in?
CoolPool Waters
Disney. That’s idi*t enough.
Desmond
I lost all faith when I heard Jabba the Hutr’s son call him “Java” the Hutt….
jon
Ava
My son and I are big fans of Star Wars. We couldn’t wait to see The Mandalorian and Grogu. We even went to a 3D IMAX to get the full effect. We were very disappointed in it. The hype just wasn’t working. Sorry. Still a fan, but probably won’t be seeing the new version. It’s just too expensive to pay for a movie we have already seen and disappointed in.
Brayden
Disney is already celebrating their losses by announcing they’re w r i t i n g “prequel” comic books to the movie, lol 😂🤣🤣🤣
CoolPool Waters
I wouldn’t watch this movie if I found it for five bucks in the bargain bin at Walmart
Sean Golden
Not sure about the new release. I always want a “Directors” cut of all movies but one with “voice over” not sure that s gonna make any movie better.
STO
Will Pedro’s rants about the MAGA audience and the audience that didn’t show up be in the commentary? LOL!!!!
PortaPowerPal
If they made a commentary featuring all the comments on YouTube I’ve read being negative about Pedro, baby yoda, the shills who thought it would make two billion dollars and the movie itself I’d probably pay to watch that. The audience comments are more entertaining! 😂
AwayFromHere
Make the comments a movie and call it Fatigued Star Wars: The Fans Strike Back
JAMES OVERHOLT
Dumb. It was great, as it is. Taking too much pressure to blow the doors off – I am NOT going back for a “commentary” version and would have not seen it in the 1st place is that was the version offered.
John
Not sure my voice means anything, considering the box office numbers telling the story. This release was clearly a mistake. The success was in the television series which allowed opportunity to fill in the details (like a book does versus a movie). It shakes my confidence in coming releases. Has this franchise lost its way? I guess we’ll see soon enough.
Matt
Coming in HOT! Boycott Disney! The Corp Board showed their TRUE Colors, by taking marching orders from the Ultimate ” Disturbance in the Force” A lot of us continue to DECIDE with our Wallet…
I have been offered Disney for FREE… ZERO DOLLARS… and I still won’t do it…
Thanx 4 coming to my TeD Talk 😁
Corbyn
This isn’t Lucasfilm’s fault, it’s Disney’s for forcing them to make a movie when the story works best as a show. It’s not a bad movie but people want to see something new at the theater, this film was missing lore. It would have done better if it was connected more to the overall story.
Kredian
Disney has killed Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Which amazing movie franchise is next?
Adam
The so called fake fans killed Star Wars they drove Lucas to sell after bashing him for the prequels and they bash Disney for making junk. Why not be happy that we are getting content and enjoy the Star Wars universe
Spdrcr
..and as a burger fan should I be forced to be happy with a NO MEAT veggie burger??
RickLach61

Disney R.I.P. 2019…..
