Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy remains one of the most iconic Batman film series in cinema. While Tim Burton’s 1989 film and its 1992 sequel starring Michael Keaton remain beloved classics, Nolan’s three films with Christian Bale — Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) — are equally revered by fans.

Now, a new Dark Knight installment has arrived, and not only does it celebrate the legacy of Batman’s long history in film, but it also brings back an actor from 2008’s The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight Returns

The highly anticipated LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (2026) has finally launched across all major gaming platforms.

From TT Games and Warner Bros. Games, the new Batman title features a massive open-world Gotham City complete with iconic locations such as Wayne Manor, the Batcave, Arkham Asylum, and Ace Chemicals. There are also multiple playable characters, including Bruce Wayne/Batman, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, The Joker, and Harley Quinn.

“Step into the cowl of the Dark Knight and unite Gotham’s greatest heroes in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight,” the official synopsis for the game states. “Explore a vast open-world Gotham City, battle iconic villains, and experience a celebration of Batman’s legendary history across film, comics, and animation.”

A Dark Knight Actor Has Returned

Now, the full cast for Legacy of the Dark Knight has been revealed.

Last year, we learned that Shai Matheson and Matt Berry would voice Bruce Wayne/Batman and Bane, respectively, but now, the full lineup has been confirmed on social media.

In an Instagram post shared by Matheson on the day of release, the actor wrote:

“MEET THE CAST! LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is out TODAY, and we wanted to introduce you to the heroes and villains of Gotham City and the people that brought them to life. Performances cast, recorded and directed at @sideglobal.”

The cast for the game includes Rich Keeble as Two-Face, Clara Emanuel as Catwoman, Savannah Beckford as Batgirl, Greg Jones as Robin, Harry Myers as Alfred, Ewan Bailey as The Joker, Ian Conningham as The Penguin, Alexandra Guelff as Poison Ivy, Oliver Senton as Mr. Freeze, Matthew Curtis as The Riddler, and, notably, Colin McFarlane as Jim Gordon.

McFarlane previously portrayed commissioner Gillian B. Loeb in The Dark Knight.

In fact, aside from this cameo of sorts, the new LEGO game leans heavily into Nolan’s films. Not only does it open with a training sequence where Bruce Wayne (Matheson) must learn the ways of the ninja with the League of Shadows, a sequence that’s inspired directly by the first act of Batman Begins, but the game also features the likes of Heath Ledger’s version of The Joker from the 2008 film and Tom Hardy’s Bane, as seen in The Dark Knight Rises (2012), as well as countless other callbacks to the Dark Knight trilogy.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version arriving at a later date.

Upcoming Batman Movies

Legacy of the Dark Knight will undoubtedly whet your appetite for more Batman in cinema, and fortunately, there’s plenty on the way.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman—Part II is currently in development, with a release set for October 2027, and the separate DC Universe reboot, The Brave and the Bold (TBA), which is being directed by Andy Muschietti (2023’s The Flash), is expected to cast a new actor as the Caped Crusader. However, there’s no release date for that film.

There’s also the upcoming animated film adaptation of the Batman: Knightfall comic book series, with the first installment set to release sometime later this year.
