For 87 years, Bruce Wayne’s journey from orphaned heir of Wayne Manor to the Dark Knight of Gotham City has been one of the richest character tapestries in modern storytelling — defined by allies, enemies, and everyone in between.

From his debut in Detective Comics in 1939 through films such as Batman (1989) and The Batman (2022) to animated gems like Batman: The Animated Series (1992–1995), Batman’s world has always been teeming with equally iconic figures that define his legacy.

That sprawling ecosystem — the sidekicks, the villains and anti‑heroes — hasn’t just shaped comics and films, though. Video games have long been a core part of the Batman franchise, whether it’s the Arkham series’ immersive Gotham or the many LEGO titles that have celebrated DC’s universe with slapstick charm.

Now, TT Games and Warner Bros. Games are fusing those traditions in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (2026), an open‑world LEGO action‑adventure set in Gotham City that aims to honor Batman’s rich history from the earliest comics to the latest films.

Legacy of the Dark Knight Is a Celebration of Batman

Unlike previous LEGO Batman games that focused on specific stories or movies, Legacy of the Dark Knight charts Bruce Wayne’s evolution from young trainee with the League of Shadows (as depicted in Christopher Nolan’s 2005 film Batman Begins) to Gotham’s guardian in a dynamic, story‑led campaign.

Inspired by highlights from nearly every era of the character’s life, the game’s narrative spans classic and contemporary material, giving players a chance to experience key moments and locales in playful LEGO form.

In a behind-the-scenes video shared last year, DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn, who appears alongside key creatives, explains how the game calls upon many versions of the Gotham City hero, saying, “One of the many great things about LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years,” adding that the “game is an absolute celebration of everything Batman.”

The Bat-Family Character Lineup Confirmed

At the heart of the experience is its Bat‑Family of playable characters. Confirmed heroes you’ll actually take control of include Bruce Wayne/Batman himself (with an array of multiple iconic suits on offer), Commissioner Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul — each equipped with unique gadgets and abilities that reflect their roles in the mythos.

These allies aren’t just window dressings; they’re integral to combat, puzzles, and traversal across an expansive Gotham City playground. The world is fully open, with crimes to stop, unlockables to discover, and vehicles like Batmobiles and Batcycles ready to cruise from Arkham Asylum to Ace Chemicals.

The game also leans into the villains, environments and set–piece callbacks fans adore, recreating cinematic beats (like Jack Nicholson’s museum scene from Batman 1989 and Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker scenes from 2008’s The Dark Knight) with that familiar LEGO flair.
