A Warner Bros. artist has quietly confirmed a sequel to one of the most popular recent installments in the Harry Potter franchise: Hogwarts Legacy. The studio is allegedly targeting a 2027 release date for the video game sequel.
Hogwarts Legacy
In 2023, Warner Bros. Games (under its Portkey Games label) collaborated with Avalanche Software for Hogwarts Legacy, an open world action role-playing video game (RPG) based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter universe. It takes place a century before the book series and subsequent films starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley).

Players start as students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learning spells, attending classes, and exploring Hogwarts Castle. Like Harry, though, they eventually form bonds with professors and fellow students that allow them to discover an ancient Wizarding World secret.
As with any recent installment in the Harry Potter franchise, many former fans boycotted Hogwarts Legacy over J.K. Rowling’s controversial anti-transgender views. However, at the time of publication, the game had sold over 40 million copies across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles.

This weekend, a Warner Bros. artist accidentally announced the development of Hogwarts Legacy 2 by listing the game on their LinkedIn resume. Warner Bros. Games is expected to confirm the sequel at the Summer Game Fest event on June 5, eyeing a 2027 release date to coincide with the premiere of the HBO Harry Potter remake series.
