I too will disappear from the ride after 50 years. My era is being erased by assholes who don’t care about our feelings. I have been riding this ride for more years than the pricks who are changing it been out of diapers or still a twinkle. I gave up on Disney; it just isn’t the same anymore. I’ve been going to the parks 2 to 3 times a year, now, I just don’t care. Now I can wait to see all the comments about my feelings being old fashion and out of date, I AM NOT DEAD YET!!!
They are putting Grandpa and Grandma and Uncle Orville in their graves. They are destroying the scene where they celebrate our Independence, talk about UNAMERICAN, GEEZZZ!!!!
As an oldie I personally enjoyed the history behind the Carousel of Progress. However, I have not been to Disney in several years but the last few times that we went I noticed that the popularity of this attraction had waned greatly. The most likely cause is that the attraction, especially the final scene, was no longer looking toward tomorrow. Modern technology has passed that scene and it is time to look forward again. I do not truly like it but I do understand.
We always visit The Carousel of Progress when we visit MK. We appreciate the nostalgia and the air conditioning with comfy seating. Disney definitely needs to remember that many people go to Disney to experience that nostalgia. Without it, it’s just another overpriced theme park.
I’m mixed…I love this ride. I love the history of this ride and how it evolves from the early 19th century. However, it is dated. It does need to be more modern and change w/the times. But, I will most definitely miss the old version. I wish I could get there before the closing date but that’s not going to happen. I’ll just watch old YouTube videos and look at the pictures on my phone.
Now, Mickey and Minnies runaway railroad…that one I could do without. I absolutely LOVED The Great Movie Ride.
I agree with the comment about building a museum if that’s what you want to call it to preserve artifacts of the periods that are being removed from the current Carousel of Progress. I know Walt Disney was a visionary as have been many within the Disney organization. The preservation of what was, is important.
The point behind the attraction is how the advent of electricity shaped the family home. So, instead of starting at the beginning, they want the story somewhere in the middle?? Makes no sense! We always knew it was the 4th act that needed up dating. But now they want to get rid of all them. There is a way to compromise. Start at 1900, then 1930s, to 1960s, then beyond 2026.
Glad they are updating it. Change the characters and put something new in. Include diverse cultures as well. Show us what the future of technology will look like and I hope they include some eye popping advanced AI, holograms, or new robotics!!
This was updated in 1994 to bring the final scene “current.” It also changed the music from “Now is the Time” to “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” at the same time, which was sad for those of us that grew up with the former. This isn’t the first time for updating, and to keep interest, it needs updating to include modern times. It’s not ERASING history or a Magic Kingdom ride; ya’all are being dramatic. It’s just an update to make the experience more relevant to the current generations that are still alive.
Nothing needs to be updated and relevance, schmelevance. Disney can survive on its name alone and will be after I take over and make it great again by taking it backwards and keeping it stuck in the 20th century with no changes. People will visit a park carrying a Disney name even if it stays the same.

They should build a place on the side of the ride and house the original scenes as sort of a walk through museum.

Too bad they can’t add another section to the ride. Keep the old and add the new. Or at least just update the last scene. That’s what they did before.

I never go there anymore and don’t care what they do to certain rides. They all need an upgrade from time to time.
