For months, guests walking through Disney’s Hollywood Studios had to weave around construction walls, blocked-off pathways, and constant signs teasing that “something new” was coming. Animation Courtyard, one of the park’s oldest remaining sections, disappeared almost overnight back in 2025, leaving many longtime fans wondering what exactly Disney planned to do with the area.

Now, the walls are finally gone.

Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios can officially walk through the newly transformed Walt Disney Studios courtyard area, and for the first time, Disney fans are getting a real look at what this massive reimagining actually feels like in person.

The update is a major visual shift for this corner of the park. While Disney has several attractions and experiences still scheduled to open later this summer, the courtyard itself is now accessible, giving guests a chance to explore the new pathways, details, seating areas, and themed environment inspired directly by the real Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California.

And honestly, it already feels dramatically different from the old Animation Courtyard many guests remember.

The Old Animation Courtyard Is Practically Gone

Animation Courtyard had been part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for decades. Even though the area changed several times over the years, it still carried a very “classic Hollywood Studios” feel. That old archway entrance became iconic to many longtime visitors, especially fans who remember the park before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge completely reshaped the identity of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

But Disney officially closed Animation Courtyard in September 2025 to begin the transformation.

Since then, the area has spent months hidden behind construction walls as crews demolished major elements, repainted facades, added landscaping, and rebuilt the section into what Disney now calls The Walt Disney Studios courtyard.

One of the biggest visual changes is how much more open the area now feels. The old entrance is gone entirely, replaced with new pathways, fresh greenery, expanded seating spaces, themed signage, and details that lean heavily into Disney animation history.

According to Drew Smith on X, Disney also packed the area with smaller hidden details that fans are already stopping to admire.

There are birds perched on rooftops, studio references built into the environment, themed pavement markings, animation nods, and even references to Pluto’s Corner from the real Burbank studio lot.

It’s clear Disney wants this area to feel more like a functioning studio campus instead of just another theme park walkway.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live Is About To Become a Major Draw

One of the biggest reasons Disney rushed to open the courtyard now is because Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! officially debuts on May 26.

The show replaces the former Disney Jr. Play and Dance! offering and will become one of the park’s primary family entertainment options for younger guests.

That matters more than people may realize.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has steadily become one of Walt Disney World’s most intense parks. Between Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, the park leans heavily toward thrill attractions and high wait times.

But this new courtyard gives families with younger children a much-needed place to slow down a little.

The outdoor queue area for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live is now fully visible, and guests can finally see how Disney integrated the show into the new courtyard layout.

The area also appears designed to support future character interactions and entertainment offerings throughout the day.

That’s especially important because Disney has clearly been pushing more spontaneous character experiences lately instead of relying only on traditional meet-and-greets hidden inside buildings.

Character Meet-and-Greets Are Becoming a Bigger Focus Again

One thing fans immediately noticed after the walls came down is how much open space now exists throughout the courtyard.

That likely is not accidental.

Disney has already confirmed that The Magic of Disney Animation experience will eventually bring multiple character encounters into the area later this summer.

Inside that reimagined building, guests will reportedly meet characters, experience Olaf-led drawing classes, and explore a new Alice in Wonderland-inspired playground area.

But even before that opens, the courtyard itself already feels built for roaming entertainment and character interactions.

Guests walking through the space can spot posters, murals, and references to dozens of Disney animated films, including Frozen (2013), Encanto (2021), Zootopia (2016), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), Mulan (1998), and Peter Pan (1953).

Disney also appears to be heavily promoting Zootopia 2 (2026) throughout the area right now, with multiple posters and themed details already installed.

The entire space almost feels like Disney wanted to create a celebration of animation history rather than just another land built around a single IP.

Fans Are Already Reacting Online

As soon as the walls came down, photos and reactions immediately started spreading across social media.

Disney fan Drew Smith posted:

“BREAKING: The Walt Disney Studios courtyard has opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”

The post quickly gained attention from fans excited to finally see the area uncovered after months of construction.

And honestly, many reactions seem surprisingly positive so far.

That’s notable because Disney fans have become increasingly critical whenever the company removes older park areas. Animation Courtyard may not have been the most beloved land in Walt Disney World, but it still carried a lot of nostalgia for longtime guests.

Yet this new version appears to be winning many people over because it doesn’t feel sterile or overly modern.

Instead, Disney leaned hard into animation history, classic studio aesthetics, greenery, and smaller environmental storytelling details.

That approach feels very different from some of Disney’s more recent “IP-first” expansions.

This Is Only the Beginning for the Area

Even though the courtyard itself is now open, Disney still has major additions coming later this summer.

The biggest missing piece right now is The Magic of Disney Animation.

That experience will take over the former Star Wars Launch Bay building and is expected to become one of the biggest family-focused offerings inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney has described it as an interactive celebration of Disney animation where characters seemingly come to life after animators step away from their desks.

There will also be the Once Upon a Studio Theater experience, which screens the Emmy-winning animated short while adding enhanced in-theater effects.

So while the walls may finally be down, this entire section of the park still feels like a work in progress in the best possible way.

For now, though, guests can finally walk through the space again instead of staring at construction barriers.

And after nearly a year of walls, demolition, and transformation, that alone already feels like a huge moment for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
