Las Vegas has never been a city that does things halfway, and when Universal Destinations and Experiences decided to bring a year-round horror experience to the entertainment and arts hub known as AREA15, the ambition of the project matched the city it landed in. Universal Horror Unleashed is not a pop-up haunted attraction or a seasonal event stretched beyond its welcome. It is a permanent, large-scale immersive experience built by the same team responsible for Halloween Horror Nights, one of the most celebrated event franchises in the theme park industry, and it has given horror fans something they have never had before: a reason to plan a Las Vegas trip specifically around going somewhere to get scared.

Since its opening, Horror Unleashed has drawn guests who love the theatrical scale of Universal’s haunted mazes, the film-quality sets, the professional actors, and the overall atmosphere of stepping into something that feels genuinely cinematic rather than carnival. The experience houses four haunted mazes built around Universal Monsters, Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Scarecrow: The Reaping, alongside themed dining, craft cocktail bars, merchandise, and the kind of layered entertainment that turns a visit into a multi-hour event rather than a quick walk-through. For a certain kind of traveler, Horror Unleashed is already the reason to book a Las Vegas trip.

Which is why the operational calendar update currently circulating online matters for anyone planning around a visit.

Expedition Theme Park shared a screenshot of the Horror Unleashed operational schedule on X with a straightforward observation: “Seems like Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas will be closed on Wednesday each week as well as Monday and Tuesday going forward through June at least.” That means the attraction is running a four-day operational week, open Thursday through Sunday and dark the other three days. For visitors who are building a Las Vegas itinerary and assumed Horror Unleashed would be available any night of the week, that assumption needs to be corrected before the trip is booked.

What Horror Unleashed Actually Offers

Understanding why the closure schedule matters requires understanding what Horror Unleashed is and why guests make the trip specifically for it.

The experience is housed inside what is presented as an abandoned production warehouse within AREA15, a purpose-built immersive entertainment district located minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. AREA15 is worth a visit on its own terms and also houses Meow Wolf’s acclaimed Omega Mart, making the complex a legitimate destination for guests who want multiple immersive experiences in one location.

Inside Horror Unleashed, the four haunted mazes represent the serious end of the haunted attraction industry. Universal has been building these environments since Halloween Horror Nights began in 1991, and the production values at Horror Unleashed carry that same film-set quality to a permanent venue. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre maze speaks to classic horror fans. The Blumhouse The Exorcist: Believer maze pulls from a newer franchise. Universal Monsters reaches back into the studio’s horror legacy. Scarecrow: The Reaping rounds out the lineup with original content from the Universal haunted attraction creative team.

Beyond the mazes, the experience includes Jack’s Alley, a carnival-themed area built around Jack the Clown, one of Universal’s most iconic original horror characters. There is a Blumhouse-themed restaurant, bar venues with themed cocktails, and a merchandise selection that includes Las Vegas-exclusive items. Tickets start at $49, with a discounted Fraidy Cat option that covers venue access without the haunted mazes and a Nevada resident discount for locals. A VIP Experience Package is available for guests who want private hosting and priority access.

The attraction also runs seasonal overlays, including a Krampus-themed Christmas experience and a haunting Easter event called Feaster Grievings, which gives repeat visitors reasons to come back throughout the calendar year.

How This Connects to a Disney Vacation

For guests who visit Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando and love the horror event programming that the Universal brand produces, Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas is the year-round alternative to Halloween Horror Nights that has been genuinely missing from the entertainment landscape. Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando runs on select nights from late August through November 1, and this year’s event marks the 35th anniversary of the franchise with a theme called Infernal Carnival of Nightmares. The event promises 10 new haunted houses and will feature Halloween Horror Nights icons Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow teaming up for the first time in a house called “Jack and Oddfellow: Chaos and Control.”

Tickets and packages for Halloween Horror Nights 35 are now available, including single-night tickets, Universal Express Passes, R.I.P. Tours, a Scream Early add-on that gets guests into select haunted houses starting at 2 p.m., and vacation packages that bundle hotel stays with park admission including Universal Epic Universe. Premium Scream Night, a limited-capacity event with shorter waits and lower attendance, returns for two nights on August 27 and October 19.

For guests who cannot wait until August for their haunted fix, or who are planning a Las Vegas trip and want to incorporate Horror Unleashed, the closure schedule is the critical piece of information. Thursday through Sunday is when the attraction runs. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday it does not. Building any Las Vegas itinerary that includes Horror Unleashed around those four operational days is the only way to guarantee the experience is available when you arrive.

AREA15 itself remains accessible beyond the Horror Unleashed closure days, and the district’s other offerings including Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart operate on their own separate schedule. But for the horror mazes and the full Universal Horror Unleashed experience, the Thursday through Sunday window is what guests have to work with through at least June.

If Horror Unleashed is on your Las Vegas list, check the current operational calendar before you book your travel dates. The four-day schedule is confirmed through June, but checking the attraction’s official site or the AREA15 event calendar before finalizing anything ensures you are not arriving on a dark night. And if Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando is on your radar for this fall, tickets for the 35th anniversary event are on sale now and the Premium Scream Night dates on August 27 and October 19 tend to sell through quickly. Book both before they disappear.
