Refurbishment work is now underway at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, with crews turning their attention to one of the property’s most recognizable visual icons: the giant “POP” sign located just outside Classic Hall.
Positioned behind the main lobby building and facing the vibrant Hippy Dippy Pool area, the towering letters have long served as a colorful welcome for guests exploring the resort’s playful, nostalgia-filled grounds. Now, however, the sign is looking a little less “pop” and a little more work-in-progress.
Crews have begun sanding down the sign’s signature bright orange paint, stripping it back to prepare for a fresh new finish, as highlighted by WDWNT. As the old layers come away, the panel outlines beneath have become more visible, suggesting that some sections of the structure may be changed or even replaced as part of the refurbishment. The white borders and blue trim that frame the letters are also being worked on, giving the entire installation a noticeably faded and patchy appearance—for now.
Despite the ongoing work, the area hasn’t been fully closed off. A couple of crew members have been spotted onsite actively working, while a green barrier has been placed in front of the first “P” as a precaution. Meanwhile, the flowerbeds that usually surround the base of the sign have been cleared, with plants temporarily removed to allow easier access for construction.
Interestingly, the refurbishment isn’t limited to the front-facing portions. The backs of the letters have also been sanded down, revealing gray patches along the lower edges—another sign that this update is more than just a simple repaint.
This latest project is just one part of a broader refresh taking place across Walt Disney World Resort hotels, and it follows recent enhancements at Pop Century itself. Guests who visited over the past year may have already noticed the remodeled Classic Hall lobby, which now features a vibrant new mural showcasing Mickey Mouse and friends, adding even more personality to the resort’s central hub. Guest rooms have also undergone updates, continuing Disney’s push to modernize its value-tier accommodations while maintaining their signature charm.
For those unfamiliar, Disney’s Pop Century Resort celebrates the trends, fads, and pop culture moments of the 20th century, with each section of the resort themed to a different decade—from the 1950s through the 1990s. Oversized icons, from Rubik’s Cubes to yo-yos, are scattered throughout the property, making the giant “POP” sign a fitting centerpiece for its bold, playful aesthetic.
The resort also holds a prime location on Disney property, with direct access to the Disney Skyliner, offering guests convenient transportation to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Combined with its affordability and energetic theming, Pop Century remains a favorite among returning visitors and first-time guests alike. The Skyliner has already announced its next annual closure in January 2027.
While the current state of the “POP” sign may look a little rough around the edges, the refurbishment signals that Disney is continuing to invest in keeping even its most nostalgic elements looking fresh.
