The Jurassic franchise has remained one of Hollywood’s most enduring blockbuster series since Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park (1993).
The film was followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001), before the franchise roared back to life and was rebranded with Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022), bringing together legacy characters like Sam Neill (Dr. Alan Grant), Laura Dern (Dr. Ellie Sattler), and Jeff Goldblum (Dr. Ian Malcolm).

Jurassic World Rebirth: Success and Failure
That success continued with Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson (Zora Bennett), Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid), Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis), and Rupert Friend (Martin Krebs).
The seventh installment in the franchise follows a team traveling to a remote island research facility to extract dinosaur DNA for a potential heart disease treatment, only to find themselves fighting mutant experiments to survive.
While the film drew mixed reviews from critics and longtime fans, it proved a major commercial success, grossing over $869 million worldwide.

Jurassic World Rebirth 2
Not long after its release, reports began circulating that Universal Pictures was already exploring a follow-up. Last year, according to insider Jeff Sneider (via SFF Gazette.com), a new Jurassic World film was in development, with director Gareth Edwards and the film’s leads all said to be in negotiations to return, suggesting the studio had little intention of slowing the franchise down following Rebirth’s box-office performance.
Now, a new rumor from industry insider Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK) suggests the project may be moving forward faster than expected. According to the latest report, the next sequel—referred to as Jurassic World Rebirth 2—is being lined up for a production start in the fall, with a potential July 2028 release window.

More Clues Jurassic World Rebirth 2 Is Happening
Earlier this year, speculation about the next movie ran rampant when the mysterious domain name jurassicworldliberation.com had been filed and applied by an unknown source, and the URL reroutes you directly to the official Jurassic World website.
Around the same time, Film Base, a website that features entertainment industry updates and information on productions starting in the U.K., shared notes from a webinar mentioning several “big tent-pole movies”, including “the next Jurassic”, a project “said to be starting in March” (2026).

As with previous rumors, no plot details have been revealed, and for now, Universal Pictures has not officially announced a sequel or confirmed any of these reports. Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating what direction the franchise could take now that it’s explored everything from hybrid dinosaurs to human clones and global threats to genetic mutations.
Some fans have speculated about concepts like human-dino hybrids, a bizarre concept that has been floated online since Jurassic Park III was released. Another possibility is the introduction of Ice Age beasts, which have already been teased in tie-in media over the years.
But whatever the next Jurassic film will be about, it will almost certainly fall under the World banner, meaning the Park side of the franchise is extinct—at least in theaters.
