Theme parks have always been about imagination. Whether it’s stepping into a fairy tale castle or racing through a jungle filled with dinosaurs, guests visit parks like Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood to experience stories brought vividly to life.
For decades, Universal Destinations & Experiences has focused largely on thrill rides, cinematic storytelling, and immersive lands designed for teens and adults. Attractions like Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey helped shape the company’s reputation as a destination for adrenaline-fueled adventures.
But something very different has been quietly developing behind the scenes.
Families have long asked for more experiences designed specifically for younger guests—places where children can explore beloved characters at their own pace while still enjoying the same immersive storytelling Universal is known for.
Now, a new project is beginning to answer that call.

Universal Has Long Dominated Thrill Rides—but Families Have Been Asking for Something Different
Over the past decade, Universal parks around the world have expanded dramatically. New lands, new hotels, and major projects have reshaped the theme park industry.
But for families with very young children, Universal’s lineup has often leaned toward bigger thrills and blockbuster franchises.
While areas like Seuss Landing at Universal Orlando Resort offer family-friendly attractions, the company has rarely built an entire destination centered specifically around younger audiences.
That gap is exactly what Universal’s next major project aims to address.
And for many fans, the concept alone has sparked major curiosity.

A Mysterious New Project in Texas Has Quietly Captured Theme Park Fans’ Attention
In recent years, Universal announced plans to build an entirely new resort experience in Frisco, Texas—one that would look very different from anything in Orlando, Hollywood, or even the upcoming Epic Universe park.
Unlike traditional Universal parks filled with large roller coasters and massive attractions, this resort is being designed from the ground up for families with young children.
The concept centers around play, discovery, and interactive storytelling, with immersive lands inspired by some of the most recognizable characters in entertainment.
As construction continues, fans have been eager to learn what exactly this smaller-scale park will look like—and which characters might appear inside it.
Now, new details are finally offering a clearer picture.

The project will include seven themed lands, each designed around beloved characters and franchises that resonate with younger audiences.
Among the lands announced are:
-
DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp, where guests can meet Shrek and Fiona while exploring a playful, water-filled environment inspired by the films.
-
DreamWorks’ TrollsFest, a glitter-filled celebration where guests can sing, dance, and interact with Poppy, Branch, and other Trolls characters.
-
DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar, a vibrant village hosting rides, games, and character meet-and-greets centered around the beloved feline adventurer.
-
Jurassic World Adventure Camp, where young explorers can encounter baby dinosaurs and experience jungle-themed rides and attractions.
-
Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, allowing families to step into iconic locations from the show, including SpongeBob’s famous pineapple home.
-
Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, featuring playful water-based chaos between the Yellow and Purple Minions.
-
Isle of Curiosity, the park’s central hub where families can explore interactive play areas and meet characters.
The resort will also include a 300-room themed hotel, designed to give families a place to relax and continue the storytelling experience after leaving the park.
According to Universal, the destination is meant to combine rides, interactive shows, character encounters, and sensory-friendly areas designed with younger guests in mind.

Social Media Reactions Suggest Families Are Already Excited for the New Park
Theme park fans quickly took to social media platforms like X and Reddit to react to the new details.
Some users praised Universal for creating a destination that caters directly to younger audiences, calling it a “perfect starter park” for children who may not yet be ready for major thrill rides.

Others pointed to the franchise lineup—including Shrek, Jurassic World, SpongeBob SquarePants, Trolls, and Minions—as a strong mix of recognizable characters that could appeal to both kids and parents.
Several fans also noted the growing competition between theme park destinations across the United States, particularly as new projects continue to reshape where families choose to vacation.

The New Resort Could Change How Families Plan Their Theme Park Trips
When Universal Kids Resort opens in 2026, it will represent a completely new approach for Universal Destinations & Experiences.
Rather than building another massive thrill-based park, the company is creating a scaled, family-focused resort where kids truly lead the experience.
With themed lands, interactive attractions, and a hotel designed around young families, the resort could become a major new destination for travelers visiting Texas and the surrounding region.
For many theme park fans, the concept signals something even bigger: a future where Universal continues expanding its footprint beyond Florida and California.
And if early excitement online is any indication, families may already be counting down the days until this new park opens.
