New “Snyderverse” Will Continue With Different Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman

Recently, director Zack Snyder, who helmed Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2021), offered hope to Snyderverse fans during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast when he said that his series of films could continue, even alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran’s newly established DC Universe (DCU), which launched last year with Superman (2025) starring David Corenswet.

The Snyderverse Could Continue in Another Form

“We live in a world where all that is possible,” he told host Josh Horowitz when asked if his Justice League saga could return as a comic or animated series or film, adding, “Whatever form it would take, that would be amazing.”

The Snyderverse, so named because many fans view the three films as an entirely separate entity from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) — which it is officially part of — has garnered a huge cult following over the years.

Movies and TV Shows Are Unlikely (For Now)

However, live-action continuations seem unlikely, especially with the new DCU in play, which already has a handful of theatrical projects lined up, including Supergirl (2016) and Clayface (2026) later this year, as well as the long-gestating Batman reboot The Brave and the Bold (TBA). The new franchise is also expected to reboot Wonder Woman in the future.

As such, actors Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot won’t be reprising their roles as Clark Kent/Superman, Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, respectively. Of course, things can always change — after all, no one could have ever predicted that 2017’s Justice League, a project Snyder had to hand over to Joss Whedon due to a personal tragedy, would be rebooted and released within four years of release — a result, in part, of a huge campaign led by fans.

Another “Snyderverse” Is Ongoing

While the director emphasizes that the Snyderverse lives on in its current form, telling Horrowitz his “three-movie trilogy is a weed that just won’t die, adding that “it grows on its own” and “has its own life,” there is another “Snyderverse” that has quickly expanded and looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.

DC Comics’ Absolute series, which launched in 2024, includes the individual runs, Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, and Absolute Wonder Woman, stories that offer bold and almost nightmarish interpretations of the characters along with reimagined origin stories.

But the reinventions aren’t limited to the heroes — every supporting character has gone under the knife, from Catwoman to Lois Lane, Bane to The Joker, and so on.

Recently, Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder (no relation to Zack Snyder) and artist Nick Dragotta shared an image of Absolute Scarecrow to X (Twitter), with the caption, “The straw man… #AbsoluteScarecrow.”

The Absolute comics have been hugely successful since their launch in 2024, and have been critically praised for their bold reimaginings of these long-standing DC heroes.

Whether or not these iterations will ever make the leap into film or television remains to be seen, but here’s hoping that Zack Snyder’s Justice League saga gets preferential treatment.

The Absolute Universe now also includes Flash and Green Lantern, with Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, and Catwoman hitting shelves this year.
