I agree. Why not do Tales of Beedle the Bard instead? As for Marvel, there are good ones. As for Disney, they’re starting to give up on making live action remakes of Disney classics, thanks to Dana Walden and Josh D’Amaro since they’ve cancelled Robin Hood, Aristocats and Bambi

What’s wrong with “race swapping” Snape? He’s a fictional character. As long as the new actor does well what’s the big deal. Sounds like an excuse to air out your racism.
The race swap of this particular character brings a racial component to the story that was not supposed to exist.
Instead of making the conflict about pure magical blood, it becomes laden with themes of skin color.
Harry’s distrust of a brooding Snape looks racial now. James Potter’s bullying will look racist as well.
It will be difficult to avoid, but the fear is that they don’t want to. The fear is that they want to use the HP medium as just another IP to push their ideology rather than simply tell the story within the book.
I will be skeptically cautious until I see how they intend to navigate it.
Honestly, i don’t care what race the character is. My problem is that I don’t think (keep in mind I am not watching this) the new Snape can make me feel sorrow the way Alan Rickman did. My heart broke for him when I found out he was in love with Lily and he could never have her. I felt the same way in Sense & Sensibility when he fell hard for Marianne and did end up with her. His voice does it for me.
Super excited for this. The movies were… ok but not a patch on the books. I have hugh hopes that this show will do it justice.
Most people who seem to be complaining are those that were introduced to this world via the movies. Those that lived and breathed the books on the other hand. Yeah. We’re excited for what’s to come.
