Few places inside Disneyland capture the immersive storytelling of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge quite like Oga’s Cantina. The Batuu watering hole has long been a must-visit destination for travelers looking to step inside the galaxy far, far away—complete with glowing drinks, alien-inspired beats, and a lively atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the park.

Since the land debuted at Disneyland Resort in 2019, Oga’s Cantina has become one of the most recognizable locations within the Batuuan outpost of Black Spire. Guests squeeze into the dimly lit cantina, listening to the unmistakable soundscape of DJ R-3X—better known as DJ RX—while trading stories about smugglers, rebels, and galactic adventures.

But earlier this year, something unusual happened. The cantina suddenly went dark.

For weeks, the normally buzzing hub of activity remained closed, sparking curiosity among regular visitors and Star Wars fans who noticed the unexpected absence inside the land.

Guests Began Wondering Why the Iconic Cantina Suddenly Closed

At the end of January, Oga’s Cantina closed its doors at Disneyland, leaving many wondering what was happening behind the scenes. Disney did not widely publicize the reason for the temporary shutdown, which only added to speculation across fan communities.

For a location that routinely draws long reservation waitlists and packed standing-room crowds, even a brief closure can feel significant to guests planning a visit to Disneyland Park.

While refurbishment work is common across Disney Parks, the timing of this particular closure seemed notable. The Walt Disney Company has increasingly focused on evolving the storylines within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, keeping the land dynamic rather than locked into a single moment in the Star Wars saga.

That evolving narrative appears to have played a key role in the cantina’s recent closure.

The Land Itself Is Preparing for a Major Shift in the Star Wars Timeline

Since opening, Galaxy’s Edge has primarily taken place during the sequel trilogy era, where the Resistance and the First Order battle for control of the galaxy.

However, Disney has been gradually expanding the timeline represented in the land, allowing characters from multiple eras of the Star Wars universe to appear on Batuu.

This change is designed to bring together familiar figures from across the franchise—from the era of the Empire to other iconic moments in Star Wars history.

Alongside new character encounters, updates throughout the land will reflect these narrative shifts. Guests can also expect to hear music composed by John Williams integrated into the area, further tying together different eras of the saga.

And now, one of Batuu’s most iconic locations is reflecting those changes.

Oga’s Cantina Officially Reopened at Disneyland on March 13

On Friday, March 13, 2026, Oga’s Cantina officially reopened inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland after being closed since late January.

Visitors returning to the cantina noticed the location looked polished and refreshed, with subtle updates throughout the space. One noticeable detail included fog rising from the center of the bar, adding an extra layer of atmosphere to the already immersive environment.

Another change involved DJ RX, the beloved droid DJ spinning music for guests inside the cantina. The character appears to have received updated dialogue, with references to the First Order removed.

The adjustment aligns with upcoming story changes within the land.

Beginning April 29, the First Order will depart Batuu as Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire arrive, marking a major shift in the storyline represented throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Friend of Daps Magic, Spencer, visited Oga’s Cantina shortly after it reopened and captured photos of the refreshed space, giving fans an early look at the updated location.

Fans Are Already Reacting Online as the Next Chapter of Batuu Begins

The reopening quickly sparked discussion across social media platforms, where Star Wars and Disney Parks fans closely track changes inside the immersive land.

On platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, visitors shared photos and impressions from inside the cantina. Many noted the updated atmosphere and dialogue changes, while others speculated about what additional updates might arrive as the timeline shift continues.

For longtime fans of the Star Wars saga, the arrival of characters from the era of the Empire has generated particular excitement. Darth Vader’s upcoming presence on Batuu represents one of the most recognizable figures in the entire franchise.

As Disney continues evolving Galaxy’s Edge, the goal appears clear: keep the land feeling alive and connected to the broader Star Wars universe.

What This Change Means for Future Disneyland Visitors

For travelers planning a trip to Disneyland Resort, the reopening of Oga’s Cantina signals the beginning of a new phase for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

With characters from different eras arriving, music from John Williams being added, and story elements evolving throughout the land, Batuu is preparing to tell a broader Star Wars story than ever before.

And if the refreshed cantina is any indication, guests can expect even more subtle changes across the land in the months ahead.

The real question now is how fans will respond as the Empire arrives on Batuu later this spring.
