Walt Disney World Resort guests planning to cool off at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park next week will need to adjust their schedules, as the popular water park is set to close temporarily due to forecasted cold weather conditions in Central Florida.

According to the latest operational update, Blizzard Beach will be closed on Monday, February 23, and Tuesday, February 24, 2026, as temperatures are expected to dip well below the range typically suitable for water park operations. Forecasted highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, combined with overnight lows falling into the 30s, have prompted the precautionary closure. While Florida’s winter cold snaps are often brief, they are enough to make outdoor aquatic attractions uncomfortable for guests and operationally challenging for cast members.

“A strong cold front, currently draped across Central Texas, is expected to approach Central Florida by Sunday morning,” writes Click Orlando. “While some spotty showers and downpours are likely, especially after 7 a.m., rainfall totals are forecast to stay under a quarter of an inch for most areas. Most of this rain looks to head toward southern counties like Osceola and Brevard.”

The report adds that once the rain passes, “sharply-colder air is expected to move in along with breezy conditions.” The outlet expands, saying: “Daytime highs will tumble to 58 degrees by Monday and the start of the workweek could feel even chillier with lows dipping into the 30s and 40s, especially when factoring in the wind.”

The timing is particularly notable because Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park recently closed for its annual seasonal refurbishment. Typhoon Lagoon concluded its latest operating period on February 14, with Blizzard Beach reopening the following day to continue the rotating schedule that has become standard practice in recent years.

Walt Disney World typically operates one water park at a time since the pandemic shutdown, alternating closures to allow for maintenance and refurbishment while still offering guests a water park option year-round.

Blizzard Beach itself had only just returned to operation after its own refurbishment. The park’s unique ski resort theme may playfully embrace the idea of snow and icy conditions, but in reality, Florida’s winter weather can significantly impact attendance and overall guest comfort. Disney has a long-standing policy of closing its water parks when temperatures fall below operational thresholds, prioritizing both safety and the overall guest experience.

For guests visiting during the affected dates, neither of Walt Disney World’s water parks will be available on February 23 or 24. However, Blizzard Beach is expected to resume normal operations on February 25 once temperatures rise to more suitable levels. As always, guests are encouraged to monitor the official Walt Disney World calendar for the latest updates, as weather-related adjustments can change quickly.

Looking ahead, there is considerably brighter news on the horizon for water park fans. Walt Disney World has confirmed that beginning May 12, 2026, both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will operate simultaneously through the summer. This dual opening marks a significant moment, as it has become increasingly rare in recent years for both water parks to be open at the same time for an extended period.

The move is expected to provide greater flexibility for guests during the busy summer season and help distribute attendance more evenly across the resort’s aquatic offerings.

The decision to operate both parks throughout the summer aligns with broader seasonal initiatives aimed at enhancing the guest experience during peak travel months. With two distinct themes—Blizzard Beach’s snow-covered ski resort aesthetic and Typhoon Lagoon’s tropical storm setting—guests will have the opportunity to experience both immersive environments in a single vacation.

While the brief February closure may disrupt short-term plans, it also underscores the operational realities of running outdoor water parks during Florida’s variable winter season. For those planning spring and summer visits, the return of both parks operating together promises another robust water park season at Walt Disney World.

As Central Florida’s weather stabilizes in the coming weeks, Blizzard Beach is expected to continue its rotation as the resort’s sole operating water park until Typhoon Lagoon completes its refurbishment and the highly anticipated dual opening arrives in May.
