No blockbuster classic is without its fair share of mysteries, and Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993) is no exception. From the layout of the T. rex’s jungle enclosure to the illness plaguing dinosaurs like Triceratops and Brachiosaurus, the film has many unresolved questions that none of the six sequels spanning the last 30 years have even tried to answer.
But an upcoming sequel — or prequel, depending on your point of view — is set to finally uncover some of those mysteries.

A Brand-New Jurassic Park Is Coming
While all signs point to Universal gearing up to announce another film in the series following the success of Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), which grossed $869.1 million worldwide, another Jurassic installment is being developed for the smaller screen: the first-person action-adventure video game Jurassic Park: Survival from Saber Interactive.
Set on “a fully realized Isla Nublar” where players can explore familiar locations like the Visitor Center and never-before-seen areas like an abandoned hotel and other manmade facilities, Jurassic Park: Survival takes place 24 hours after the events of the 1993 film.

Jurassic Park: Survival — What We Know
The upcoming title was first revealed at the Game Awards in December 2023 with a cinematic trailer that also featured snippets of gameplay footage. Things went quiet for a while until Universal and Saber Interactive shared an exclusive, detail-heavy Q&A and IGN during the summer of 2024.
Last year, a behind-the-scenes featurette was released. It showcased everything from the game’s dinosaur models to the environments (all of which have been meticulously re-created based on production stills and blueprints from the 1993 film), and gameplay mechanics to the lead protagonist, Dr. Maya Joshi (performed in motion capture by Payal Mistry).
Who Is Dr. Maya Joshi?
Joshi is an InGen scientist who has somehow failed to evacuate Isla Nublar with her co-workers. In the cinematic trailer, we see her trying to make radio contact with the mainland; however, help isn’t coming and she’s forced to confront some of the island’s deadliest prehistoric inhabitants, including Dilophosaurus, Velociraptor, and Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Per the official website for the game, players will need to “outsmart, escape, and interact with the film’s iconic dinosaurs” by using “all the resources at your disposal to find intelligent solutions” and “ingenuity through distraction and stealth to navigate intense and unforgettable encounters in a journey to outlast some of the deadliest creatures to ever walk the earth.”
Joshi Answers One of the Biggest Questions From the 1993 Film
While it seems Joshi is the only character in the game, with Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, John Hammond, and Lex and Tim Murphy having already escaped by helicopter as seen at the end of the film, it sounds like there will be other humans on the island.
Whether they’re fellow InGen co-workers or enemies (possibly from Biosyn, the company that hired Dennis Nedry to steal dinosaur DNA) remains to be seen, but the description on the website confirms “other surprising threats” in addition to Jurassic Park’s dinosaurs.

But even if it is just Joshi and no one else (which would make for an extra terrifying experience), then it still answers one of the biggest questions fans have had about Jurassic Park (1993) for decades: What happened to all the other employees working on Isla Nublar?
We know that John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) ran a skeleton crew of staff — which included game warden Robert Muldoon, chief engineer Ray Arnold, computer programmer Dennis Nedry, and geneticist Dr. Henry Wu — but we see plenty of other workers in the background during the laboratory scene. And, later in the film, Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) even uses the speaker system to evacuate Nublar by boat due to an incoming tropical storm.
This suggests that Jurassic Park’s workforce is spread far and wide (we also see a character name Dr. Gerry Harding literally out in the field with the sick Triceratops). Did Maya Joshi somehow miss Arnold’s announcement? If she did, she probably isn’t the only one.

When Can I Play Jurassic Park: Survival?
There’s no release date for the game, but it will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the synopsis for the game reads.
“Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”
