Disneyland Resort abruptly closed its historic Monorail system on Wednesday, February 25. Guests were turned away from taking the iconic tram-style transportation from the Downtown Disney District to Tomorrowland Station in Disneyland Park.
Disneyland Monorail Shut Down

On February 25, countless Southern California Disney Park guests arrived at the Downtown Disney District to find that they’d need to walk to the main entrance of Disneyland Park rather than take the Monorail straight into Tomorrowland. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace shared a photo of a sign informing families that the “Disneyland Monorail is currently unavailable.”

Disneyland Resort didn’t share any information about the abrupt shutdown. 30 minutes later, @laughingplace claimed that the Monorail was operational again, writing:

Unfortunately, the operations were short-lived. At the time of this article’s publication, the Southern California Disney park’s official app still listed the Monorail as “temporarily closed.” See below:

Guests will need to walk to and from the Disneyland Park main entrance and the Downtown Disney District until the tram system reopens.
Another Closure Coming Soon

Wednesday’s Monorail closure was unexpected, but Disneyland Resort guests have a bit more time to prepare for the next shutdown of the historic transportation system. Earlier this month, the Southern California Disney park announced that the Monorail (as well as the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin attraction) will close for refurbishment beginning March 30, 2026.
Disneyland Resort’s official calendar currently only lists operational schedules through early April, and the Monorail is listed as closed through then. The Southern California vacation destination hasn’t shared its plans for the refurbishment or announced an official reopening date.
