Disney has officially closed one version of its Space Mountain attraction, as of today.
Since opening in 1975 at Walt Disney World, Space Mountain has remained one of Disney’s most recognizable thrill rides. Its reliance on darkness, sound, and speed helped redefine how roller coasters could function inside family-focused theme parks.

The attraction’s enclosed design allowed Disney to adapt it across multiple resorts. Versions at Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland feature different track layouts, music, and pacing, shaped by regional tastes and long-term planning.
Over time, several parks took decisive approaches. Disneyland Paris permanently transformed its ride into Hyperspace Mountain, while Tokyo Disneyland opted to demolish the original attraction entirely, replacing it with a next-generation Space Mountain built from the ground up.
Hong Kong Disneyland followed a different path. Its Space Mountain has operated largely as Hyperspace Mountain for several years, positioning the Star Wars-themed version as the default experience rather than a seasonal overlay.

That choice has divided fans. Some welcomed the added narrative and characters, while others preferred the original, non-IP version. The debate lingered as Disney continued reshaping Tomorrowland across its global parks.
Hyperspace Mountain Closes as Changes Continue
As of today, February 24, Hyperspace Mountain is officially closed at Hong Kong Disneyland. The attraction has entered a period of “operational adjustments,” with a reopening window listed as late April 2026. Disney has not clarified the scope of the work.
The wording leaves room for interpretation. The closure could involve routine maintenance, technical updates, or more visible changes to the ride’s presentation or theming, though no formal announcements have been made.

Speculation intensified in 2025 when the park quietly removed the X-Wing starfighter that once stood outside the attraction. For many regular visitors, the removal suggested the Star Wars overlay might not be as permanent as previously assumed.
The changes do not stop with Space Mountain. Mystic Manor also closed as of February 24. The original trackless dark ride is widely regarded as one of the park’s strongest attractions. It’s set to reopen in March.
Ongoing Changes at Hong Kong Disneyland
These developments arrive during Hong Kong Disneyland’s 20th-anniversary celebration, “The Most Magical Party of All,” which runs through summer 2026. New entertainment, seasonal offerings, and expanded character experiences remain central to the anniversary push.

This includes the Friendtastic parade, featuring 11 floats and 11 groups of Disney characters such as Mickey and Friends, Duffy and Friends, and Mirabel and Isabela from Encanto (2021). Meanwhile, Disney Friends Live: Party at the Castle! – which also features Mickey and Friends, Duffy and Friends, and Disney Princesses – combines music, dancing, and visual theatrics in front of the Castle of Magical Dreams for multiple performances per day.
Come nightfall, a special 20th Anniversary edition of the Momentous nighttime spectacular integrates new stories, drone technology, and projections along Main Street, U.S.A.
