One Walt Disney World Resort theme park will finally reopen on Friday after being shut down for several days in a row. Unfortunately, the operations will be short-lived, as the Central Florida Disney park will close again on Saturday for another three-day stint. Here’s what vacationers need to know.
Walt Disney World Theme Park Shutdown Update
On January 28, Walt Disney World Resort updated its website to reflect that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will finally reopen on Friday, January 30, before closing for three more days. The news comes as weather forecasts indicate another freezing weekend in Central Florida, with wind chills dipping into the teens.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park has closed several times this month due to low temperatures in the Sunshine State. It reopened from a multi-day closure on January 26, but then shut down again on January 27 and will remain closed through January 29. The water park will operate on its regular schedule on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will shut down once again and remain closed through February 2. The park is currently scheduled to reopen on February 3, but that could change if freezing temperatures continue.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is currently closed for its annual refurbishment, so it is unaffected by the weather conditions in Central Florida.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Refurbishment
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will close for its annual refurbishment on February 15, 2026, and Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park will reopen. The final day to visit Typhoon Lagoon is Saturday, February 14.

Work has already begun on a central aspect of the annual maintenance period: the rebuild of the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide. The attraction is already closed, and permits have been filed listing a contractor known for rebuilding other waterslides throughout Walt Disney World Resort.
A judge recently dismissed a lawsuit against Walt Disney World Resort over a “painful wedgie” on the slide that allegedly left a woman with lasting internal injuries.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park will be open from May 26 to September 8, 2026. This will be the second summer in a row that Walt Disney World Resort has operated both water parks simultaneously; 2025 marked the first time since 2019. As part of the “Cool Kid Summer” promotion, Disney Resort hotel guests receive complimentary water park admission on check-in day during this period.
