At 12:15 p.m. on December 2, police and first responders were called to EPCOT for a reported “Person Down.” The X (formerly known as Twitter) account @WDWActiveCrime, which tracks and reports police scanner activity at Walt Disney World Resort, posted about the law enforcement response on Tuesday:

At this time, no further information is available regarding the victim’s identity or condition. The address of the emergency call corresponded to the main entrance of EPCOT, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that is where the incident occurred. It is standard procedure for emergency calls at Walt Disney World Resort to be routed to centralized locations.

Deaths at Disney World

This incident follows a difficult two months at Walt Disney World Resort. In October, two guests died by suicide at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The first was 31-year-old Summer Equitz, an Illinois resident who had been reported missing by her family after taking a last-minute flight to Central Florida.

The second was 28-year-old Matthew Cohn, who checked into a 12th-floor Bay Lake Tower room and paid in cash one night before his tragic death.

Throughout October and November, three other guests died of natural causes at the following Walt Disney World Resort hotels: Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. Authorities did not release the identity of the guests, but said foul play is not suspected in any of the incidents.

A “person down” call can refer to a lot of things, from someone who passed out due to dehydration to a more life-threatening medical emergency, like a heart attack or stroke. Many of the recent tragic deaths at Walt Disney World Resort began as “person down” calls that were later updated to “dead person,” but the verbiage doesn’t always indicate that a person has passed away.

Unless the “person down” call is related to criminal activity, like an instance of battery or theft, it’s unlikely that Walt Disney World Resort or local authorities will release any information about the victim at EPCOT on December 2.

Is Disney World Safe Right Now?

The short answer: yes. Walt Disney World Resort has not issued any warnings for guests, and law enforcement authorities haven’t indicated that there is an active threat at EPCOT, Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

If you’re visiting EPCOT today and happen to see law enforcement activity, please follow all written or verbal instructions from authorities and Disney cast members. Occasionally, first responders and Disney cast members will block certain areas to protect the privacy of guests involved in medical incidents.
