Due to the sheer size of Walt Disney World, guests have a number of options when it comes to actually traversing the resort. The most iconic way to get around the parks and hotels is the Monorail, which has been running since Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.

Guests can also fly high in the sky with Disney World’s Skyliner. However, the most popular method of traveling in Disney World is by bus, which takes guests to and from all four theme parks, hotels, Disney Springs, and the water parks.

Recently, Disney World has made efforts to increase the number of guests taking buses, at least in Animal Kingdom.

Expansion work is continuing on Animal Kingdom‘s bus depot. Construction walls and other materials line the site near the end of the gates. It’s expected that this work will add four more gates to the bus depot.

Earlier this year, Disney World expanded EPCOT’s bus depot, adding more gates.

This isn’t the only growth spurt Animal Kingdom is going through. Earlier this year, most of Animal Kingdom’s dinosaur-themed DinoLand U.S.A. closed permanently to make way for a new expansion. Called Tropical Americas, this bold vision for the park will feature new rides and attractions, as well as places to shop, dine, and explore.

The land’s two main experiences will be an Encanto dark ride and a new Indiana Jones thrill ride. The remaining portions of DinoLand will close for good in February 2026, with additional demolition to follow.

Tropical Americas is rumored to open sometime in 2027.

Updates are also on the way for Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with each set to get its own new land. At Magic Kingdom, guests can look forward to Piston Peak, a Cars-themed western hub full of fun adventures.

Hollywood Studios is also getting a land based on a Pixar IP, only this time it’s Monsters Inc. Called Monstropolis, this colorful, “monstrous” new land will also be full of fun and adventure, but it also marks a first for Walt Disney World.

When complete, Monstropolis will feature Disney World’s very first suspended roller coaster themed around the door processor from the film.

Just like tropical Americas, these new lands are expected to open in 2027.
