For nearly half a century, Halloween has stood as the cornerstone of the slasher genre, defined by one simple, silent terror: Michael Myers.

Since John Carpenter’s 1978 classic, the series has undergone countless retcons, timelines, and reinterpretations, from Rob Zombie’s brutal reimaginings to David Gordon Green’s recent trilogy that brought Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode full circle.

Now, IllFonic’s Halloween video game is set to add another notch to the franchise’s evolving mythology, and possibly the series’ most daring idea yet: a female Michael Myers.

Halloween Reboot Coming 2026

First revealed a few months back with a short teaser, which was followed recently by an extended gameplay showcase, Halloween will let players stalk — or survive — in the town of Haddonfield.

Watch the official trailer for the game below:

Halloween Has Already Teased Female Versions of Michael Myers

Arriving September 2026, Halloween reimagines the 1978 story from Michael Myers’ point of view in its single-player campaign, while its multiplayer mode allows players to stalk or survive as residents of Haddonfield.

But the studio is well-known for post-launch content.

Friday the 13th: The Game introduced new maps, characters, and alternate versions of Jason Voorhees long after release, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed followed the same model.

It’s not hard to imagine Halloween receiving similar treatment — with new killers, survivors, and playable “Shapes” appearing in downloadable expansions.

A future DLC could feature a female version of Michael Myers. The franchise itself has already hinted at such a possibility more than once.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) famously ended with young Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) seemingly inheriting her evil uncle’s murderous instincts — a setup its sequels ultimately abandoned.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009) flirted with a similar idea, closing with Scout Taylor-Compton’s Laurie Strode donning Michael’s mask in a disturbing reflection of her tormentor. Even Jamie Lee Curtis’ version of Laurie, last seen in Halloween Ends (2022), leaves room for interpretation — she defeats Michael (James Jude Courtney) but keeps his mask, a gesture many fans read as symbolic possession.

Who’s Playing Michael Myers in the Game?

Whether the upcoming game decides to revisit these interpretations or invent an entirely new, “gender-swapped” “Shape,” the creative precedent is there.

A female Michael Myers — whether Jamie, Laurie, or a nameless successor — would not only fit the game’s reimagined approach to canon but also keep the Halloween legacy alive in a new form. After all, in Haddonfield, evil never dies; it just changes shape.

For now, Michael Myers will be portrayed in the game by original Halloween (1978) actor Nick Castle, alongside stuntman and motion-capture performer TJ Storm.
