It’s certainly an interesting and exciting time to visit Disney World, with the resort undergoing some of its biggest and most significant updates it’s ever seen. It all started at Disney’s D23 event in August 2024, where the company announced multiple expansion projects for its theme parks.
Most of the news involved Disney’s Florida theme park resort, which will have four new locations for guests to enjoy in the coming years.
Starting with Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the nature-oriented theme park is undergoing a significant transformation, particularly in its Dinosaur-themed area, DinoLand U.S.A. Half of the prehistoric hub closed in January, with the rest set to close permanently in February 2026.
DinoLand will be replaced by a new area called Tropical Americas, which will include new rides and attractions.
Hollywood Studios is a similar story, with the park’s Muppets Courtyard section closing permanently this summer to make way for a new land based on Pixar’s Monsters Inc.
This new land will be known as Monstropolis when all is said and done, and will be headlined by a new suspended roller coaster.
Disney’s Magic Kingdom is arguably seeing the largest changes of them all. This summer, the park said goodbye to its Rivers of America. The artificial waterways ran dry earlier this year, marking the closure of attractions like Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat.
Eventually, the middle section of Frontierland will become Piston Peak, a new area inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise.
