Walt Disney World has once again found itself in the headlines—this time for a story of hope and heroism amidst a recent string of tragedies. Over the past 10 days, the resort has seen three deaths, including an apparent suicide and two individuals who passed due to natural causes. Yet, in the shadow of these heartbreaking events, a 71-year-old man’s life was miraculously saved, thanks to the quick actions of fellow park visitors.

Heroic Guests Save a Life
The story emerged on Reddit, shared by a user who highlighted the rare but critical moments of bravery that occur at Walt Disney World.
“In the wake of the horrible news this morning of another person who decided to end his life at Walt Disney World, I thought it’d be nice to end the day on a more positive note.
A 71-year-old gentleman collapsed due to cardiac arrest in the bus loop at Magic Kingdom late this afternoon. Two random guests immediately started CPR on him and worked for several minutes until a couple of OCSO deputies showed up to relieve them. Their actions saved this man’s life. Paramedics transported him to the hospital after he’d been revived.
Many people don’t know it, but the success rate of CPR at WDW is in the 60-70% range. To give you an idea of how incredible that is, the average success rate for pre-hospital CPR in general is less than 10%.
All of our Security personnel are trained in CPR/AED use, along with lifeguards, the Children’s Activities CMs, and some of the cast who work with character performers. That’s a pretty small subset of people who work at the resort. In more than 2/3rds of the cases across the resort, when someone goes into cardiac arrest, it’s random guests who step up and start trying to save peoples’ lives. Some of you may remember a year ago that there was a 5-year-old boy who passed out on Guardians. In that case, a guest also stepped in to do CPR, saving the boy’s life.
As someone who had a former life dealing with a lot of situations where I encountered people who had collapsed and no one bothered to try to help, I am incredibly impressed that, at Disney World, SO many guests step up and try to help when someone passes out. Another person is with his family tonight because two random guests who knew what to do stepped up to the plate when it was their turn.
One life was lost today, but another was saved.”
The Reddit account emphasizes the importance of CPR knowledge and highlights how the Disney community—both staff and visitors—rises to the occasion during emergencies.
Context: A String of Recent Deaths

The life-saving incident comes amid a troubling series of deaths at Walt Disney World over the past 10 days. According to reports, three individuals have died on the resort grounds:
The news has drawn widespread attention, with many taking to social media to post images and videos of the emergency responses. A TikTok user shared footage of law enforcement and crime scene tape outside Disney’s Bay Lake Tower, noting that authorities had responded to a “medical emergency.”
Safety Measures and CPR Training at Disney
Walt Disney World has long maintained a reputation for safety, investing in staff training to handle emergencies. Security personnel, lifeguards, and certain cast members are trained in CPR and AED use, but as the Reddit post notes, it is often ordinary guests who step up when someone collapses.
The success rate of CPR at Disney—reported to be 60-70%—far exceeds the national average for pre-hospital cardiac arrests, which is less than 10%. This underscores the importance of immediate action and the critical role bystanders can play in saving lives.
A year ago, a similar incident occurred on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind when a 5-year-old boy collapsed. Quick action from a guest performing CPR helped save him, further illustrating the life-saving impact that trained—or even knowledgeable—visitors can have in moments of crisis.
The Ongoing Tragedy and Disney’s Response
Despite these heroic moments, the recent string of deaths has cast a shadow over the resort. According to data cited by the New York Post, 68 people have died at Walt Disney World since its opening in 1971.
Jim Hill, host of the “Disney Wish” podcast, has previously commented on a phenomenon he describes as individuals visiting Disney World during moments of extreme distress, seeking a last happy family memory before taking their own lives. He noted that some visitors deliberately book rooms at high-rise locations, including the Contemporary Resort, to carry out these tragic acts.
While such occurrences are rare, they are a reminder that even places of joy are not immune to real-life tragedies. The heroic actions of guests who saved the 71-year-old man serve as a counterpoint, highlighting the life-saving potential of immediate intervention and community effort.
A Message of Hope
In a space often defined by fantasy and magic, the story of this man’s rescue serves as a powerful reminder that ordinary people can make extraordinary differences. Amid the grief and scrutiny following recent deaths, it is inspiring to see how quick thinking, compassion, and courage can save lives.
For visitors, this incident is a reminder of the value of knowing CPR and staying calm in emergencies. For the Disney community, it is yet another example of the unique spirit of the park—where sometimes, heroes are simply strangers willing to act when it matters most.
