The Batman franchise has long been one of DC’s most enduring properties, with multiple actors taking on the Caped Crusader across decades of film and other media.
Robert Pattinson is the most recent to play the character on the big screen, bringing a brooding, noir-infused take to the role in The Batman (2022).
While Pattinson’s Dark Knight will return in Matt Reeves’ sequel in October 2027, the shared cinematic universe known as the DCU is also gearing up for another new chapter, and questions about who will next inhabit Gotham’s streets remain a major point of speculation.

The Brave and the Bold (TBA) has yet to reveal its casting, leaving fans eagerly awaiting confirmation. The new movie is expected to expand DC Studios’ current cinematic universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, which started with this year’s Superman (2025).
While the Batman reboot remains tightly under wraps, and though the future of the new DCU is suddenly uncertain following reports of a potential sale of Warner Bros. Discovery, fans can still look forward to another iteration of the Bat of Gotham in the highly anticipated video game “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” (2026).
The third-person action-adventure title from developer TT and publisher Warner Bros. Games. will reunite fans with the very popular LEGO version of the Dark Knight in a story inspired by multiple eras of Batman storytelling.

The upcoming game will also include other iconic Gotham City heroes such as Jim Gordon, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Selina Kyle/Catwoman.
However, while it’s teeming with familiar Gothamites, only two voice actors have been announced so far. Shai Matheson has been confirmed as the voice of Batman, which marks a notable addition to the long lineage of actors who have lent their voices to the character, following in the footsteps of icons such as Troy Baker and the late Kevin Conroy.
In the wider franchise, Matheson follows Michael Keaton (Tim Burton’s Batman films), Val Kilmer (Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever), George Clooney (Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin), Christian Bale (Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy), Ben Affleck (Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe films), and Robert Pattinson (Matt Reeves’ The Batman).

Alongside the likes of Talia al Ghul, The Joker, Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Poison Ivy, and Ra’s al Ghul, players will also encounter one of Batman’s most notorious villains: Bane, who was famously played in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Tom Hardy.
Now, he’ll be voiced by Matt Berry (The IT Crowd).
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” will give fans an early chance to return to Gotham City long before The Batman — Part II (2027) and The Brave and the Bold hit theaters. Next year also sees the release of the first installment in the animated film series, Batman: Knightfall.
The game will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026. For more information, visit the official website.
