Credit: DisneyThe success of Magic Kingdom’s Beak and Barrel has proven that bars can work in Disney World. When reservations first opened for the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar, Disney adults snatched them up within an hour, leaving many on the outside looking in.
Since its opening, the Beak and Barrel has been crowded, but Disney has also opened some reservations for smaller parties. This new bar has shown that bars can work at the Magic Kingdom, but where could Disney put another one?
There are some open spaces at the Magic Kingdom that could easily be transformed into the next Magic Kingdom bar. Look no further than Tomorrowland.
The area formerly occupied by Stitch’s Great Escape has been sitting vacant for years. It is a massive area that could be transformed into a futuristic restaurant/bar area, similar to Space 220 in EPCOT, but with a full-service bar area.
Beyond that one unoccupied space, there are very few logical areas that would work for a new bar, but Disney doesn’t need unoccupied spaces; it’s building two whole new lands.
So, the logical place for a themed bar would be to create one for the new Villains Land. Much like the Beak and Barrel created an immersive Pirates of the Caribbean experience, this new bar could bring together the lares of Disney Villains into one bar atmosphere.
While a bar in the new Villains Land would work, putting one in Cars Land seems inappropriate. Even Disney knows enough not to combine cars with alcohol.
However, there is an open space that could be the perfect fit for a new bar. The new Cars Land happens to be working right next to the Haunted Mansion. Disney could use a portion of the Rivers of America space to create a Haunted Mansion bar/restaurant in the area behind the cemetery in the queue.
This would finally give Disney fans their Haunted Mansion bar and create another adults-only space themed around one of the rides Disney adults cherish.
The Beak and Barrel has taught Disney that fans want bars in the Magic Kingdom, despite Walt’s ban on alcohol, and they’re willing to pay for it. So, like everything else Disney does, expect more bars to come to the parks. It’s just a matter of where they go and what new themes Disney Imagineering will create.
