It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Walt Disney World, though 2026 is poised to be even bigger for the resort. Over the last several months, guests have seen Disney World change in unprecedented ways, namely with the closure of fan-favorite locations like Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and of course, Muppets Courtyard.

Disney has promised newer, bigger, and better things are on the horizon, though it’s been a divisive time for theme park fans to say the least.

The discussion surrounding the closure of Muppets Courtyard has been especially heated, as it not only affected places like Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo, two classic restaurants, but also Muppet*Vision 3D, an iconic 4D theater experience.

Construction walls now block access to the Muppets’ corner home, with a new photo revealing what remains of Muppet*Vision and Muppets Courtyard.

Muppets Courtyard permanently closed in June, marking the end of an era for Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the start of a new chapter for the ever-changing theme park. Hollywood Studios has seen a number of updates, renovations, and overhauls over the years, with the biggest coming in 2019 with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Disney seeks to make yet another significant change, this time taking inspiration from Pixar’s Monsters Inc. franchise.

Called Monstropolis, Muppets Courtyard’s replacement will be based on the fictional city seen in Pixar’s iconic animated film. Exact details are unknown, though Monstropolis is confirmed to feature a new dining location and a major “E-ticket” attraction.

This attraction will be a suspended roller coaster, a first for Walt Disney World.

Monstropolis doesn’t mark the total eviction of the Muppets from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, however, as Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of Jim Henson’s beloved puppet creations are actually being moved over to one of the park’s most popular attractions.

Earlier this year, Disney announced Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith would be getting a makeover. After years of speculation, Disney is finally giving Aerosmith the boot, meaning the coaster is without its headlining act.

The Muppets will fill in the gap. Following a refurbishment period, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets officially opens in 2026. Details of the ride aren’t concrete, but visitors can expect the same thrilling experience, only this time with a Muppets twist.

Will you miss Muppets Courtyard? Are you excited for Monstropolis?
