Logan, AKA Wolverine, is one of the most well-known superhero characters in the history of Marvel. From comics to animated TV shows to Hugh Jackman’s decades-long tenure as the adamantium-powered mutant, Wolverine is an integral and beloved part of the pop culture canon. And next year, a new era for the character will begin.

Wolverine’s Mainstream Legacy
Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Logan/Wolverine is one of the most iconic runs in modern comic book cinema. He first stepped into the role in 2000’s X-Men, instantly becoming the breakout star of the ensemble with his gruff charm, adamantium claws, and tormented antihero persona. Over the next 17 years, Jackman reprised the role across the original X-Men trilogy, the Wolverine spin-offs, and the X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) timeline reset, cementing himself as the definitive on-screen Wolverine.
The character’s arc culminated in James Mangold’s Logan (2017), which presented a weary, broken version of the hero in a bleak near-future setting. Widely regarded as one of the best superhero films ever made, Logan gave Jackman an emotional farewell to the character, one he had publicly said would be his last.

That changed with his surprise return in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which marked his official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shawn Levy’s film embraced the meta, chaotic energy of the Deadpool franchise while giving Jackman a chance to play a more comic-accurate Wolverine, complete with the yellow-and-blue suit.
This version wasn’t the same Logan from Logan or the Fox-era films but rather a Multiversal variant, allowing Jackman to honor the legacy of his earlier performances while having fun with a fresh take. His dynamic with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool drove the movie, blending sharp banter with brutal action sequences, and fans embraced the reunion as both a nostalgic event and a new beginning for Wolverine in the MCU.

A New Chapter for Wolverine
Insomniac Games has officially confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 in Fall 2026, giving fans a clear release window after years of anticipation. The announcement arrived alongside a brand-new trailer and a striking piece of cover art, both of which highlight the darker, more brutal direction this take on Logan is set to explore.
The game promises to present Wolverine at his most feral, with combat described as fast, fluid, and unapologetically violent. Players can expect cinematic set pieces woven together with raw, visceral action that embraces dismemberment, berserker rage, and the cost of unleashing Logan’s beast side.
Actor Liam McIntyre, known for Spartacus: Vengeance and Gears of War 4, brings Wolverine to life, capturing both the raw power and vulnerability of a character constantly torn between rage and reluctant heroism; PlayStation Blog said, “In this story, he is on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him.”

The story itself is positioned as a globe-trotting adventure, pulling Logan into some of Marvel’s most iconic locations. The neon-lit streets of Tokyo, the rugged wilderness of Canada, and the criminal underworld of Madripoor are all central to the narrative. Along the way, familiar faces and factions appear, with Mystique, the cybernetic Reavers, and Omega Red all teased in the new footage. Fans were also quick to notice a prototype of a towering purple robot in the trailer, sparking speculation that the Sentinels could play a major role.
To mark the occasion, Insomniac revealed the game’s official cover art, created in collaboration with celebrated comic artist Jock. The artwork balances a bold simplicity with the expressive energy of Marvel’s comic heritage, capturing Wolverine’s rugged essence in a single image.

Accessibility is also a major focus for the studio. While full details are being saved for later, the developers promise a robust suite of options, including descriptive audio tracks that are already integrated into the trailer.
Insomniac confirmed that fans can expect more updates in Spring 2026 as the studio builds momentum toward release. For now, the new trailer provides a tantalizing glimpse of the brutal and emotional journey ahead, one that seems primed to solidify Wolverine as one of the defining PlayStation 5 experiences, much like Spider-Man did for the previous generation of Marvel games.
