There’s a lot going on with Batman these days. Aside from the highly anticipated upcoming sequel to 2022’s The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, DC fans are eagerly awaiting news about who will don the iconic cape and cowl in the newly established DC Universe, which officially kicked off on the big screen this summer with James Gunn’s Superman (2025).
While David Corenswet slipped into the red-blue-yellow spandex as the Last Son of Krypton, it remains to be seen who will be responding to the Bat-signal in Gotham City in the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold (TBA). Of course, plenty of names are being floated online by fans, but until Warner Bros. makes an official announcement, we’re in the dark.
But elsewhere in the DC Universe, a new Bruce Wayne/Batman actor has been revealed.
A New Batman Story Is Coming

Beyond the films, there’s another upcoming Batman installment that’s set to be one of the richest in the entire franchise. “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” is an upcoming third-person action-adventure video game from developer TT (Traveller’s Tales) and published by Warner Bros. Games.
A new behind-the-scenes video that dropped on Batman Day (September 20) dives deep into the game, including storyline, villains, gameplay, environment, and lots more.
A New Yet Familiar Dark Knight

While the new game features the familiar LEGO Batman, key developers reveal that he’s more of an amalgamation of several iconic iterations of the Caped Crusader from all across media.
“Years ago, at TT, we made the first LEGO Batman game,” Development Team Head at TT Games Jonathan Smith says in the new video. “That was so special for us. But now, with ‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’, we are able to draw upon the whole history of that wonderful character and distil decades of fantastic storytelling to really immerse players in the experience of becoming the Dark Knight.”

TT Games Design Director Mark Green says, “We’ve pulled in all of these references from Batman movies and TV shows,” which include Batman (1989), The Batman, The Dark Knight trilogy, the animated series.
But the game also includes inspiration from countless Batman comics.
“One of the many great things about ‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years,” co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn explains. “People can experience this character maybe as fully as they ever have.” He adds, “This game is an absolute celebration of everything Batman.”
A New Gotham City

Fans can also expect one of the most highly detailed and immersive versions of Gotham City ever put to game. President, Publisher, and CCO at DC Jim Lee describes the city as “almost like a mosaic”. He explains, “When you come up close to a wall, you go ‘That’s a LEGO brick’. You pull back and now ,you’re in Gotham City and it feels and looks like Gotham City.”
“The travel of the city is way, way beyond what we’ve done before,” Deborah Cook Sr. Advanced Technical Designer adds.
As teased in the video, players can explore Gotham City by foot, sky, Batmobile, and more. You’ll also recognize many familiar locations, including Wayne Manor and the Batcave.
Batman Heroes and Rogues Gallery Villains

“LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” has no shortage of iconic characters, either.
Its large ensemble includes Commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, The Joker, Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, and Bane.
Who’s Playing Who?

While the full cast hasn’t been revealed yet, it has been confirmed that Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) is voicing Bane, and Shai Matheson (Manhunt) is voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman, replacing Troy Baker and the late and legendary Kevin Conroy from earlier games.

“Legacy of the Dark Knight” is far from the only LEGO Batman we’ve seen. Not only does it follow 2008’s “LEGO Batman: The Videogame”, “LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes”, “LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham”, and “LEGO DC Super-Villains”, this version of the character has also dominated toy shelves and movies, having appeared in The LEGO Movie (2014) and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) — with Will Arnett voicing him in both films — as well as several smaller features and other games, including ones based on the two major theatrical releases.
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
