Disneyland has updated its operational schedule for one classic attraction.

With 2025 marking Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, it should come as no surprise that the resort has experienced its fair share of changes over the years. But between flashy new rides inspired by more recent IP – such as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – there are still plenty of classic attractions at the Southern California theme park.

The likes of Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and “it’s a small world” are considered some of Disney’s most quintessential old-school attractions. Several of Disneyland Park’s staples have been replicated at other Disney parks over the years, including the perennial Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes.

First opened in 1956, the canoes at Disneyland take guests from Bayou Country and around the Rivers of America, with Disney promising “charming surprises” as you “discover the wonders of the last great frontier!”

Today, you can find versions of the attraction at Tokyo Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland (Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Paris have long since axed their canoes).

At their original location, the canoes have recently undergone an operational update.

Disneyland Reduces Operating Days for Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes

Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes are currently only available to Disneyland guests on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Guests will need to prioritize visiting Bayou Country (renamed from Critter Country with the debut of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure) relatively early in the day as the attraction closes at 5 p.m.

From the week of October 6, the canoes will return to daily operations for the foreseeable future.

However, don’t be surprised if operations are again reduced later in the year. Disney typically closes the attraction to guests in slower periods of the year. As stated on the Disneyland website, “Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes operates seasonally, may close due to inclement weather and is only open during certain times of day.”

Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes has faced some criticism in recent years. In 2022, a Native American TikToker condemned Disney for an “out of touch” teepee display on the attraction. “I was confused on why my [people] were put up on display at Disneyland lol,” the TikToker wrote in the caption for the now-deleted video.

Have you ever experienced Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes?
