Disney World Guest Arrested After Shocking Exit From Resort

Imagine checking into a Walt Disney World resort, suitcase in hand, excitement buzzing in the air, and the promise of ten magical days ahead. Families often save for months—sometimes years—to make those memories happen. Disney hotels, especially high-end ones like the Swan and Dolphin, are designed to transport guests into a bubble of comfort, where real-world problems are left at the door.

But what happens when that bubble bursts? For most visitors, Disney is synonymous with joy and security. For one man, however, his stay ended not with fireworks, but with flashing lights and a ride to Orange County Jail.

Before we dive into the details of the case, it’s important to note that hotel security and resort policies exist for a reason: to protect both guests and staff. And while this particular story might sound like a plot ripped from a crime drama, it’s a reminder of just how seriously resorts take fraudulent activity.

What Happened at Disney’s Swan Hotel

In June, 26-year-old Justin Lara checked into the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel claiming he was in town on business. He stayed in Room 404 for ten days, racking up a bill of $2,200. But hotel staff soon discovered the credit card on file belonged to someone else—and that it was flagged as fraudulent.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Lara told staff the card belonged to his boss, a man named Brian Smith, who was supposedly covering the costs. When the hotel attempted to run other cards provided by Lara, each one declined.

The arrest report states Lara claimed he was attending Unreal Fest, a gaming industry conference, and had “other business” in Orlando. But when pressed for details about his job, Lara struggled to give answers. He was unable to provide his employer’s address and couldn’t get in touch with the “boss” who was allegedly footing the bill.

When officers arrived, they found multiple fake IDs, blank checks, and other suspicious items in Lara’s possession.

How Guests Can Avoid Similar Trouble

While most visitors aren’t trying to scam the system, stories like this highlight the importance of being prepared when staying at major resorts like Disney’s Swan and Dolphin. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Always travel with multiple forms of payment. Even if one card malfunctions, having a backup prevents stressful moments at checkout.

  • Communicate directly with the hotel. If your stay is sponsored by an employer or group, confirm arrangements in writing before you arrive.

  • Keep ID documents valid and current. Disney hotels verify identity closely, and mismatched records raise red flags.

  • Use mobile check-in and apps. This keeps your account secure and prevents mix-ups at the front desk.

Why This Story Matters to Disney Fans

Disney is built on trust: families pay premium rates because they expect safety, comfort, and reliability. Stories like Lara’s stand out because they’re rare, but they also underscore the resort’s vigilance.

In fact, Disney and partner hotels are known for swift action when fraud is suspected, ensuring that the vast majority of guests never experience disruptions. Still, the drama surrounding this case has sparked conversation among fans about the balance between luxury hospitality and strict security.

For many, it’s also a reminder: while the magic is real, Disney operates in the real world too.

The Bigger Picture

Court records revealed this wasn’t Lara’s first run-in with law enforcement. His history of false identities and prior arrests adds a darker twist to the story, reminding readers that even in the “happiest place on earth,” real-life consequences follow.

For Disney, the incident is already behind them. For guests, it’s a cautionary tale: play by the rules, respect the system, and your stay will end with fireworks—not handcuffs.
