Walt Disney World Resort has filed a new construction permit for the ongoing refurbishment of a major part of Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. Here’s what Disney Park guests need to know.

In May 2025, Magic Kingdom Park guests first noticed construction walls surrounding Cool Ship, a snack kiosk in Tomorrowland. Despite the barriers, guests could watch the demolition from above while riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Within weeks, the entire structure was demolished, reduced to a pile of dirt.

In recent weeks, Magic Kingdom Park guests have watched as crews poured the foundation for the updated Cool Ship kiosk. Footers in the foundation suggest that the new or refurbished snack kiosk has been pre-fabricated offsite and will be installed in Tomorrowland in one (or a few) pieces.

On September 3, Walt Disney World Resort filed a new construction permit for the Tomorrowland construction at Magic Kingdom Park. The Notice of Commencement states its purpose is to “Install Signage” at 1227 Monorail Way, Bay Lake, Florida, 32830–the approximate address of the Cool Ship kiosk.

Walt Disney Imagineering has contracted Design Communications Ltd. for the construction. This third-party contractor has previously worked on construction projects at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, the EPCOT World Showcase Canada Pavilion, and more.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t shared much information about its plans for the Cool Ship kiosk at Magic Kingdom Park. Before its closure in May, the Quick Service location served pre-packaged ice cream bars, Coca-Cola products, and other snacks widely available at the Central Florida Disney parks.

When they stopped for a churro or bag of cotton candy at Cool Ship, few Disney Park guests realized they were standing underneath film history. The bright red fiberglass spaceship that topped the snack kiosk was a recycled prop from Disney’s Flight of the Navigator (1986). Unfortunately, Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t said whether the iconic spacecraft will return to Magic Kingdom Park or retire to the archives.
