A new James Bond reboot is officially underway, with Blade Runner 2049 and Dune director Denis Villeneuve at the helm and Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight penning the script.
Rumors about which actor will slip into the tux have circulated for years, long before Daniel Craig’s final outing in No Time to Die (2021). More recently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (28 Years Later) and Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) have been named as potential frontrunners.

Tom Holland (the MCU’s Spider-Man) has also had his name thrown in the ring.
Recently, while appearing in a video with world-famous British chef Gordon Ramsay, the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor finally broke his silence about those rumors.
When asked by Ramsay whether they were true, Holland said, “Listen, there’s speculation at the moment. We’ll keep it to a minimum for now. We’ll get there one day.”
Then Ramsay asked him if he’d like to play the iconic MI6 agent. Holland didn’t hesitate, saying, “Dude, I mean every young British actor, it’s the pinnacle of working in our industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive you know, I could not have dreamed to have the career that I have.”

Holland certainly seems up for the challenge. However, Henry Golding and Taron Egerton – whose names have also entered the conversation in recent years – recently suggested in separate interviews that the role of James Bond isn’t necessarily something for them.
Speaking about the pressure and the expectations surrounding Bond, Golding (Last Christmas) described the idea of landing the role as “every actor’s kind of nightmare”, before adding, “But at the same time, [you’re] also wanting to kind of add something new to a franchise. Why can’t they bring out more agents or more 00s [agents]? I think that would be so much more fun, because there just isn’t the restraints and the expectation.”
Egerton, who’s no familiar to playing an international super-spy (the Kingsman films), said he doesn’t think he would be good in the role, adding that “there’s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it” and that it would probably be “wasted” on him.

Whether or not Holland will be cast in the role remains to be seen. For now, he’s busy suiting up as the world’s friendliest neighborhood web-slinger again in Spider-Man: Brand-New Day, which releases in theaters on July 31, 2026.
There’s no release date for the new James Bond film.
