The Muppets Removed From Disney World

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has officially closed the curtain on one of its most nostalgic corners—Muppet*Vision 3D and the surrounding Muppets Courtyard. After more than three decades of entertaining guests with Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang, the beloved 3D show gave its final performance on June 7, 2025.

The entire courtyard—including PizzeRizzo and the Stage 1 Company Store—was sealed off just a day later. Rolling planters now block guest access, and park maps no longer mention the area.

For many fans, it marked the end of an era, one that honored Jim Henson’s final Muppet project before his passing. Social media lit up with tributes, themed meetups, and heartfelt goodbyes, as fans dressed up and said farewell to the cherished part of the park.

But the space won’t stay quiet for long. Disney has begun demolition and retheming in earnest, with the Stage 1 Company Store already reduced to rubble by early August.

In its place, Hollywood Studios is making way for an entirely new land based on Monsters, Inc., headlined by the upcoming Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster—a first-of-its-kind suspended roller coaster at Walt Disney World, set to debut in the near future.

While the original Muppet*Vision theater and PizzeRizzo building are being preserved structurally, they’ll be reimagined as part of the Monstropolis expansion.

And Muppets fans can take some comfort knowing that the characters aren’t leaving the park entirely—Disney has confirmed that the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster will reopen with an all-new Muppets theme in 2026, bringing the characters back in a much wilder form.

But Disney can’t truly stay away from the Muppets during their 70th anniversary, can they?

The Muppets Return in 2025

To celebrate their 70th anniversary, Disney has chosen the Muppets to headline its holiday runDisney event, the runDisney Virtual 12Ks of Christmas. General registration opens August 19 and will cost $267.

“Bring your friends and family together for the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational holiday event. Make some merry mayhem this December during the runDisney Virtual 12Ks of Christmas,” the official runDisney site explains.

“Honoring The Muppets’ 70th anniversary celebration, this glorious 12K event features three 4K races hosted by favorite Muppet characters.”

The three 4k races include the Miss Piggy and Foo Foo 4K, the Gonzo and Camilla 4K, and the Kermit and Robin 4K. The 2.49-mile races can be completed at any time between December 1 and December 31, and those participating will receive limited edition gifts that, to some, will be more than worth the $267 fee.

“Since it’s virtual, you can sprint like Animal or strut like Miss Piggy, whenever and wherever you want,” the site adds.

“And not only will you have access to customizable digital tools like themed race bibs and finisher certificates, but you’ll also earn limited-edition Muppets 70th-anniversary medals (three 4K medals and one Challenge medal) that double as ornaments and are exclusive to this event. Join this year’s virtual run—bursting with more cheer, more fun, and just the right amount of wocka wocka!”
