It’s been nearly 30 years since J.K. Rowling published her first book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, also called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the U.S. And while the seven-book series does focus primarily on Harry Potter, there are so many characters that make the Harry Potter universe as popular as it is.
Harry’s two best friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Hermione’s family was never a big part of the series, but the same cannot be said for Ron Weasley. His parents and siblings became Harry’s surrogate family, and at the end of the series, Harry even ended up marrying Ron’s younger sister, Ginny.

The Weasley family consists of parents Arthur and Molly, and their seven children — Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. They are quick to accept Harry and let him know that their home is always open to them. It’s the first taste of a real family Harry has ever had, and he ends up living with the Weasley’s after escaping from his aunt and uncle’s home.
Now, not every Weasley child gets as much attention in the books and movies. Fans got to know Ron, Fred, George, and Ginny the best, with Percy making his largest appearance in the first film, and Bill appearing in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 (2010) and 2 (2011).
However, the one Weasley child we never saw was Charlie.

Charlie is mentioned a decent amount in the books, but he is rarely mentioned in the movies. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), Ron mentions in passing that Charlie is working with dragons in Romania, but that is about it.
The films could not contain everything the books did, as they had to consider run times and budgets, and because of that, Charlie’s role was virtually erased from the storyline.
However, we have some exciting news to share. According to HBO, Charlie Weasley WILL appear in the new Harry Potter series that is currently in the works!
