That answer came early on Sunday morning as Disney Imagineering updated its progress on the new Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom. At this morning’s D23 Expo, Disney gave a few updates on the land’s progress and showed just how detailed and intricate the land would become.

The morning started with the announcement that Imagineer Wyatt Winter would be working on the new land. His credits include Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. His involvement is a good sign for Disney fans who often credit him with creating one of the best rollercoasters at any Disney Park.

After he was introduced, Winter said, “Disney Villains remain some of the most iconic and beloved characters thanks to their memorable musical moments, extravagant attire, complex stories, and striking visuals.”

Disney also teased a new architectural style that Imagineering created for the new land called “Conjured Architecture.” They described it as a “blend of historical components and fantastical worlds that will merge to ultimately create the all-new land at Magic Kingdom.”

Disney also announced that veteran Imagineer Caroline May would be the executive creative director for the project. May has been with Disney Imagineering for 18 years.

Disney Imagineering also shared photos from Paris, France, and Barcelona, Spain, where Imagineers traveled to get inspiration for the new land.

As the presentation continued, Disney revealed that Disney Legend and former animator Andreas Deja consulted on the land. He is best known as the animator behind Gaston, Jafar, and Scar.

Disney did not offer a timeline for the new Land at Magic Kingdom, but these updates show the details and length of the work that Disney Imagineering is going to do to create an immersive new experience for guests.

Disney fans just have to wait to see when the new Villains Land opens at Magic Kingdom.
