There’s a big development in the filming of HBO’s Harry Potter reboot.

It’s been two years now since Warner Bros. announced its plans for a reboot of the Harry Potter franchise – not as a movie series, but as a decade-long television adaptation for its streaming platform, then known as Max . Each season will cover one of the seven books, aiming to offer a more faithful and expansive retelling of J.K. Rowling’s beloved wizarding world.

Since then, the show has switched over to HBO, but its goal remains the same. The reboot will clearly lean into familiar magic, reusing classic Hogwarts sets – like the Great Hall – and has featured John Williams’ original theme, “Hedwig’s Theme,” in its teaser. However, it promises to offer more depth than the original films, exploring storylines omitted from the cinematic adaptation starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as the Golden Trio.

This time, the trio will be portrayed by Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Arabella Stanton (Hermione), and Alastair Stout (Ron). The three young stars will be joined by major names like John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Snape), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Johnny Flynn (Lucius Malfoy), plus others closely following the book ensemble.

‘Harry Potter’ Filming Update

The latest update on the show suggests that we’re just days away from filming.

Recent weeks have been marked by pictures of set construction at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, including Privet Drive and Platform 9 3/4. While it was already clear that production was imminent, reports are circulating that July 14 is the first day of filming.

The first day of filming for the HARRY POTTER TV series is apparently next Monday, 14 July!

It will take place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden

Reports suggest that Warner Bros. plans to film the first two seasons of the Harry Potter reboot back to back.

If true, the young cast would cover the events of Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets before aging becomes noticeable – a challenge faced by other youth-led series like Stranger Things and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which has yet to air its second season after premiering its first in 2023.

According to Production Weekly, they’re filming season 1 and 2 of the HARRY POTTER TV series back-to-back Please note that this is not 100% confirmed and may be based on a misunderstood quote from Casey Bloys

For now, the plan remains unconfirmed. Still, given the show’s aim to adapt all seven books over a decade, such a production schedule seems practical. It would also mirror the original film series’ pace. Although only Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2 were filmed consecutively, the rest were shot with little time between.

Philosopher’s Stone wrapped in March 2001 (with additional work in July), while Chamber of Secrets entered production by November that same year. This rapid turnaround helped maintain consistency in the cast’s appearance – something the reboot may try to replicate to preserve believability across its multi-season arc.
