What’s next for Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster? Disney just gave us a major clue, and it’s not what anyone expected.

Disney has officially confirmed that Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith will remain open “through the end of 2025”, with the ride closing sometime in early 2026 to begin its transformation into a Muppets-themed thrill ride. While no exact date has been announced, all signs suggest the coaster will likely shut down in January 2026, keeping it open through New Year’s and closing as the calendar flips.

Fans and planners have taken comfort in that timeline, especially those visiting late 2025—like November or December—knowing they’ll still get that signature super‑stretch limo launch.

A Marvelous Muppet Takeover

In announcing the transformation, Disney teased it would be “Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets,” featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the Electric Mayhem gang behind the wheel. It’s set to be the first ever Muppets coaster—and you can bet we’ll hear some funky beats, a few laughs, and maybe even guest appearances from other Muppets in the pre‑show or ride itself.

Concept art and park chatter suggest:

  • A sunset boulevard facade featuring giant guitars, colorful Muppets signage, and Dr. Teeth’s band posters.

  • A queue themed as a back‑stage area prepping for a wild Muppet concert.

  • Animatronic cameos or projections of Electric Mayhem members and possibly cameo DJ sets by Gonzo or Fozzie.

And of course, you’ll want to check out the new Muppets festive merch that’s sure to pop up all along Hollywood Boulevard near the ride.

What Else Is New to the Area?

The coaster retheme is part of a bigger shake‑up on Sunset Boulevard:

  1. Monsters, Inc. Land — adjacent to the current Muppet Vision 3D building, featuring Disney’s first suspended coaster and a theatrical show inspired by the movie. This new land is set to open either in 2026 or 2027.

  2. A new Villains-themed stage show has taken over the space left by Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy.

  3. Potential landscaping and plaza updates to meld the Sunset Boulevard atmosphere—imagine a cohesive mix of neon lights, vibrant marquees, and storytelling touches.

If you’re into behind-the-scenes details, Disney has already filed a construction permit near the existing coaster to prepare for the retheme. That means they’re laying the groundwork now… even while the ride is still spinning!

Wrapping it All Up

If you’ve been holding off on riding the coaster in its classic form, now’s the time—there are only a few months left to get that epic limo launch with Aerosmith. After that, it’ll be a brand‑new Muppet gig worth checking out in its own right!
