Any fan would be forgiven if they’d forgotten that Stranger Things Season 5 is actually coming later this year. After all, the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix sci-fi horror series faced significant delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023.

But our beloved Hawkins heroes’ last stand against dark wizard Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the Upside Down is almost upon us. While we got the teaser for the release date announcements (see below) back in June, we’re yet to see any actual footage for Season 5.

When Will Stranger Things Season 5 Premiere?

The above teaser outlines the following 2025 release dates for Season 5: Volume 1 will stream on Netflix November 26, Volume 2 on Christmas, and the finale on New Year’s Eve.

Anticipation for the epic conclusion to Stranger Things, which started in 2016, is now reaching fever pitch. Season 4 ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger, with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) battling Vecna in the Upside Down, a confrontation that left the fate of Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) ambiguous.

Equally shocking was watching the terrifying shadow dimension breach Hawkins as signaled by a supernatural storm and a deep crack in the earth below.

Now, Stranger Things has revealed via social media that the first official teaser will premiere on July 16. It shows a poster with an unnaturally stormy sky and some of the characters on their bikes on the ground below, with a caption that reads “One last adventure begins”:

Stranger Things: The First Shadow

If you’re planning to catch up on all things Hawkins and Upside Down before Season 5 premieres later this year, you should also check out the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which is currently playing in London’s West End and on Broadway.

Acting as a prequel, The First Shadow takes place in 1959, following young versions of Joyce (then Maldonado), Jim Hopper, Bob Newby, Henry Creel, and Papa/Dr. Martin Brenner. The show is considered fully canon with the series, offering up plenty of context to Vecna.
