In 1992, Disney transformed the legendary Middle Eastern folktales One Thousand and One Nights into one of its most memorable and beloved animated films, Aladdin. Aladdin tells the story of an orphaned street rat who falls in love with a princess. Aladdin finds a magic lamp and wishes for the genie to turn him into a prince, so the princess will fall in love with him.
Aladdin was a huge box-office success, grossing more than $700 million at the worldwide box office. It was one of the highest-grossing films of 1992, and it was the first feature-length animated film to gross over $200 million in both the United States and Canada.

In 2019, Disney turned Aladdin into its latest live-action remake, starring Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Will Smith as the genie. The remake was an even bigger hit than its animated predecessor, grossing more than $1 billion at the box office with a budget of just $183.
While critics didn’t love the remake as much as the animated version, fans did. The animated movie currently has a 92% audience rating, while the live-action remake has an incredible 94% rating.
And we have now learned that the classic story is getting another remake, but not one that a lot of Disney fans will be thrilled with.

According to Bloody Disgusting, B22 Films is currently working on a two-part horror reimagining of the original story — Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge.
The two-part saga centers around a struggling young woman who stumbles upon a magical lamp that offers the ability to grant three wishes – wishes that go horribly wrong…
Aladdin stars scream queen Devanny Pinn and Rob Zombie alumni Billy Blair (Machete, Three From Hell). It’s Written and Directed by Brett Bentman and Produced by Tiffany McDonald and B22 Films. Executive Producers include Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland.
Brett Bentman tells Bloody Disgusting, “This Aladdin is rooted in the ancient tale. It’s the story about wanted things so badly, unaware of the consequences, that these characters just wish for them and from there, things go haywire.”

Bloody Disgusting said that cameras began rolling in Oklahoma this month, and the studio is planning for a 2026 release. We do not know if both films will be released in 2026, or just the first film.
While Disney’s version of Aladdin is not in the public domain, the original story is, which is why B22 Films can take the characters and create its own terrifying narrative.
Aladdin is not the first Disney movie to receive a horror remake. In the past few years, characters like Steamboat Willie, Bambi, Peter Pan, and Winnie-the-Pooh have been given a horrifying reimagining.
