A popcorn kiosk at EPCOT caught fire on Sunday morning. The news broke when a distressed guest shared a video of the incident on social media.
Walt Disney World Resort guest Candice Wash posted the clip on Facebook on May 11. It showed Disney cast members surrounding the popcorn cart near the Journey Into Imagination With Figment attraction as smoke billowed. At the beginning of the video, a small orange glow is visible inside the popcorn cart, but it turns into black smoke within a few seconds.

“Fire at EPCOT!” Wash wrote. “Popcorn cart caught fire near Figment this morning!”
The Disney Park guest didn’t share any other details about the incident. However, WDWNT arrived on the scene shortly after Disney cast members successfully extinguished the fire.
The outlet shared photos of Disney cast members surrounding the popcorn cart, holding fire extinguishers. By the time they arrived, EPCOT management cast members had secured the area and prevented guests from coming near the popcorn kiosk.

The glass window where guests can usually see the popcorn flavors while waiting in line showed significant damage, with black smoke stains concealing the interior from view. The top of the popcorn cart, including a ventilation area, also showed black smoke damage. The rest of the kiosk appeared undamaged.
Eventually, Disney cast members reopened the right side of the kiosk, which sells frozen treats and bottled beverages. The popcorn kiosk remains blocked off by temporary stanchions, and guests can no longer purchase popcorn at this location.

Luckily, it appears that no one was injured during this EPCOT fire. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t issued a public statement about the blaze, and its cause remains unknown. It’s unclear when the popcorn kiosk will reopen as Disney cast members assess the extent of the damage.
