Fans still aren’t too happy about Disney World’s highly controversial decision regarding Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

Over the years, fans have seen several rides and attractions close at the Disney parks, though some are remembered more fondly than others. While some defunct attractions, namely rides like Horizons, World of Motion, and Disneyland’s abandoned PeopleMover, have become iconic parts of Disney park history, other attractions are probably best left forgotten.
However, Disney is currently in the midst of one of its most extensive theme park renovation projects yet, with multiple attractions and locations set to close permanently on both coasts.
Guests have already seen work begin inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with half of DinoLand U.S.A. closing forever this January. The rest of the land will close in 2026 to make way for new experiences based on Indiana Jones and Encanto.
However, plans extend far beyond the Animal Kingdom, with some of the biggest changes set to hit Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The park closed down a divisive but classic eatery earlier this month, with a fan-favorite attraction closing its doors forever in just a few weeks.

Several guests were recently seen protesting the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D ahead of the attraction’s removal in June. A guest managed to capture the moment in a photo, sharing it with the Walt Disney World Reddit community, where it received over 800 reactions.
The photo shows multiple guests sporting shirts that read “Save Muppet*Vision 3D” on the back. Disney’s decision to close Muppet*Vision 3D has not been very popular, with the company facing most of the harshest criticism online.
However, as seen in this photo, some guests are making their voices heard in a more personal, real-world way.

Disney first revealed its plans to overhaul its Hollywood Studios theme park during the company’s D23 event in August 2024. Disney uses its D23 conferences to deliver the latest news on projects ranging from new movie announcements to new cruise ships. For many, the parks panel is the highlight of the night, with Disney delivering some of the biggest news fans had ever seen at the company’s 2024 show.
Not only did Disney provide updates regarding its West Coast version of Pandora—The World of Avatar, but it also announced several new projects were in development, including an overhaul of Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the third-oldest theme park at the resort and was originally intended to serve as a behind-the-scenes look at movie-making. Actual sets and Hollywood productions occurred in the park’s first few years, but over time, Disney moved away from this backlot/studio themeing.
The writing was on the wall for some time, though Hollywood Studios’ original identity was officially washed away with the opening of places and attractions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, additions that signaled the park was entering a new era.
Disney confirmed big changes for the park during D23, announcing a new land based on Pixar’s Monsters Inc. would be built inside Hollywood Studios. The conference shared big details about the project, including a first look at the land’s “E-ticket” attraction, a suspended roller coaster.
However, the exact location of the new land, officially named Monstropolis, was not revealed, leaving fans to speculate about what may be closing to make way for Mike and Sully. Eventually, Disney confirmed that Muppets Courtyard would close, sending both theme park fans and Muppet fans into a frenzy.
Months have passed since D23, but fans haven’t seemed to grow any more accepting of the fact that Muppet*Vision 3D is closing permanently. The attraction is actually closing quite soon, with its final day of operation being held on June 7, 2025.
Disney will be hosting special showings of the attraction for employees following its closure, but June 7 will be the final day regular guests get to see Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo in all their 3D glory.
In what appears to be some sort of compromise with fans, Disney revealed that while Muppet*Vision 3D is closing, the Muppets themselves aren’t leaving Hollwood Studios. In the midst of these announcements, Disney also revealed that another fan-favorite attraction, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, would be closing.
However, the roller coaster will return with a new Muppets-theme, a consolation prize of sorts for the loss of the original Muppet*Vision 3D experience. Exact details regarding opening dates for this new attraction and the completion of the park’s Monsters Inc. land are unknown, though rumors suggest these projects may be wrapped up by 2030.
Will you miss Muppet*Vision 3D when it closes this summer?
