The original Disneyland is my favorite in the US. My husband and I were there in 1955 within a week or two of its opening, and spent our 50th wedding anniversary there last year. I will be there in May for my 78th birthday.
I think our favorite Disney Park, though, is Disneyland Paris, especially Merlin’s Grotto. What a wonderful, beautiful place! Wish we could afford to go back.
What a great way to spend your birthday! I went to Disneyland Paris and I had the best time — I especially loved Alice’s Curious Labyrinth, which was so fun and different from any other ride I’ve been on. And there was no wait!
It’s soo hard to pick a favorite park because there’s so
many great things at each park! But I’ve always been an animal lover and the Tree of Life is absolutely beautiful! Also Pandora has my , and you can never go wrong with the Festival of the Lion King!
I picked Hollywood Studios because of the memories of MGM Studios especially the backlot tour. My daughter, a big Golden Girls fan, always loved seeing the house. I always hoped that filming would be going on and wonder whom we might see. Anyone remember Thunder in Paradise with Hulk Hogan, Chris Lemon (Jack’s son), and Patrick Macnee? The Grand was the backdrop with crooks in drug boats screaming around the Seven Seas Lagoon. On one trip, while enjoying the end of the backlot tour, we were well above the filming in the sound stage, but there was Macnee and Lemon rehearsing a scene. As a teen, the Avengers with John Steed and Mrs. Emma Peel (Macnee and Diana Rigg) was a big favorite show. There was Patrick Macnee in a new role, but for me, there was John Steed. That memory is with me now. A couple of flights up and behind glass, but I saw one of my tv heroes.
Another trip at the end of the tour, we could look down on the animators as they worked. We saw them drawing Pocahontas. What a treat!
The working studio, the backlot tour, the bookstore next to the Sci-Fi, all gone. But, the memories live.
Disneyland! It’s Walt’s Park and the original. Yes it’s small, but there is something about literally walking where Walt walked and being part of the magic that started it all!
“To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land,” Walt Disney once said.
On July 17, 1955, Disneyland opened its gates to the public for the first time, ushering in a new era of theme park entertainment. With a star-studded broadcast titled “Dateline: Disneyland” on ABC, hosted by Art Linkletter, Bob Cummings, and Ronald Reagan, millions of viewers were introduced to the new $17 million theme park built in just a year.
Disneyland is all inclusive of the Original rides, and IMO better than the Florida version Magic Kingdom. Easy Navigation, the setup of Land is great, and a few steps away is California Adventure! Unable to pick multiple parks but this is an easy 3 day vacation! Now WDW has a lot more to offer with the space and different park locations, but is at least a 6 day excursion to visit. There in WDW is Epcot, which is my favorite place along with Hollywood Studios. I could easily not go to WDW Magic Kingdom Park, Disneyland is the best!
The distance between Disneyland and DCA is one of my favorite things about the West Coast parks too! Being able to watch World of Color at DCA then run over to Disneyland and watch the nighttime fireworks there, then heading back to the Rivers of America for Fantasmic is something you will NEVER be able to experience in Florida! One of my most treasured memories of Disneyland is hitting all the night shows between the two parks in one night!
Comments for The Very Best and Very Worst of Disney’s Magic Kingdom
I picked EPCOT because I love the gardens, the food, and drinks, the nooks and crannies in each world to hide and relax.
Same for me too plus the easy connection to Magic Kingdom if we feel like it
Same! Really debating going for my birthday this year with the Disney+ discount…
HS - thrills, spills, food and Star Wars!

Animal Kingdom is definitely a close second for me!

I picked Disneyland because it’s a piece of my childhood; every time I visit I feel like a child again.

I would like to add a few:
Best-the main park shown on the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade on TV
Worst-wanting to worship corporate greed and copy Hard Rock International and destroy ROA like Hard Rock destroyed the Mirage’s lagoon and volcano
