When guests plan their trip to Walt Disney World, a few things come to mind first, namely where they will be staying, which park they will be visiting, and, of course, what attractions they will be riding. Disney World’s four theme parks are full of classic dark rides and exhilarating roller coasters, making each one a must-see destination for those looking to maximize their Disney fun.

However, food is another major piece of the Disney World puzzle, with the resort featuring dozens of world-class restaurants and scrumptious fast-food options. Just like the attractions inside the park, guests have tons of choices when it comes to dining inside “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” but picky eaters may especially be surprised to hear Disney has its very own one-of-a-kind McDonald’s.

Much like its peers, McDonald’s has looked for ways to shake up the definition of what fast food can look and feel like over the last decade. The iconic American restaurant chain has consistently refreshed its locations over the previous several years, pushing the McDonald’s brand forward in the 21st century.

However, most of these locations offer exactly the same food, views, and vibe as the rest. This is admittedly part of McDonald’s charm, though some customers may have grown tired of the restaurant.

In comes Disney World’s own state-of-the-art McDonald’s, which is equipped with an incredibly unique aesthetic and an innovative way to order, helping differentiate it from the hundreds of other McDonald’s locations worldwide.

First opening its doors in June 2020, at the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic, McDonald’s picked Walt Disney World as a flagship location. This McDonald’s has a unique setting and feel and is also quite environmentally conscious.

Not only is this McDonald’s designed to serve classic items like McNuggets, Big Macs, and golden-fried french fries, but it was also built to be a net-zero location, meaning it generates enough renewable energy to offset its output every year.

The building also has a unique exterior, which is far from the regular white, red, and browns mostly seen in McDonald’s current locations. Disney World’s McDonald’s features a very modern aesthetic, one that is quite angular and could possibly even be classified as a “brutalist” take on the infamous golden arches.

This McDonald’s location looks and feels very open and free-flowing, allowing customers to eat both inside and out. There’s also a heavy emphasis on foliage and the color green here, which aligns with the goal of being eco-friendly.

Another thing that helps differentiate this McDonald’s from others is how guests order. Instead of walking up to a counter and ordering, patrons are asked to order at a touch-screen kiosk. This system has slowly been introduced to McDonald’s locations worldwide.

It’s quite rare to see real-world chains inside the Disney parks, but this has changed over the last decade. While the majority of restaurants, bars, and snack shops are custom-built for Disney, guests visiting Walt Disney World can still find brands like Starbucks and Joffrey’s inside the parks.
