Walt Disney World is undergoing some major transformations, and one of the biggest changes is happening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. If you’re planning a trip in 2025, there’s a significant closure to be aware of—It’s Tough to Be a Bug is taking its final bow. But that’s not the only update coming to the park.

Saying Goodbye to It’s Tough to Be a Bug
For over two decades, It’s Tough to Be a Bug has been a staple of Animal Kingdom, offering guests a 4D experience filled with animatronics, air and water effects, and some unexpected jump scares. However, the attraction is officially closing on March 17, 2025.

The show, based on A Bug’s Life (1998), has been known to delight some guests while terrifying others—especially those who aren’t fond of spiders suddenly dropping from the ceiling! Now, it’s making way for a brand-new experience.
A New Zootopia Experience is Coming
Replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug is Zootopia: Better Zoogether, a new 4D show featuring Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and other favorite characters from the movie Zootopia (2016). Disney has teased that the show will take guests through different biomes seen in the film, though full details are still under wraps.

While It’s Tough to Be a Bug will be missed by some longtime fans, many guests are excited to see how this new show will breathe fresh life into the Tree of Life Theater. Originally set to debut in winter 2025, the timeline may shift slightly due to It’s Tough to Be a Bug closing later than expected.
Animal Kingdom’s Massive Overhaul
Beyond the new Zootopia show, Animal Kingdom is undergoing a major transformation with the complete replacement of DinoLand U.S.A. The land is being reimagined as Tropical Americas, featuring immersive experiences inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones.

With this update, guests can expect a new Indiana Jones attraction, is replacing DINOSAUR, and an Encanto-themed area where guests may be able to explore the Madrigal family’s magical Casita. This marks one of the most significant changes to Animal Kingdom since its opening in 1998, shifting the park further away from its original dinosaur theme.
Animal Kingdom’s Big Year Ahead
Between the closure of It’s Tough to Be a Bug and the introduction of Zootopia: Better Zoogether, plus the massive overhaul of DinoLand U.S.A., Animal Kingdom is set for a major evolution in 2025. While it’s always bittersweet to say goodbye to an old favorite, these changes are sure to bring new life to the park and offer fresh experiences for guests.
If you’re visiting Animal Kingdom next year, expect to see construction throughout the park, but also get ready for some exciting new adventures ahead!
